Effects of Daily Movement on Blood Pressure

Researchers from University College London (UCL) and the University of Sydney conducted a comprehensive study of the effects of daily exercise on blood pressure. In this study, they found that approximately 15 thousand individualsActivity trackers were worn for 24 hours and as a result of the analysis, only an additional five-minute exercise duration was found to lead to significant improvements in blood pressure.

“Our research has shown that exercise is the most effective way to lower blood pressure, rather than less strenuous movements such as walking,” said Dr Jo Blodgett, from UCL.

“We show that just five additional minutes of exercise per day can be a powerful tool for managing high blood pressure,” said Prof. Emmanuel Stamatakis, co-senior author of the study. “These findings offer significant hope for heart health and overall quality of life.”
