Automotive Industry Breaks Monthly Historical Record

According to OIB data, the Turkish automotive industry's October exports increased by 16,4 percent compared to last year, reaching $3,6 billion. The sector, which is again ranked first in Turkey's exports, received a share of 15,2 percent. In the first 10 months of the year, the sector's exports amounted to $30,5 billion.

OIB Board Chairman Baran Çelik: “In October, we reached the highest monthly export figure ever with 3,6 billion dollars. Our sector increased by 31 percent in passenger cars and 17 percent in the supply industry. France was also our largest export market with a 27 percent increase last month.”

According to Uludağ Automotive Industry Exporters' Association (OIB) data, the Turkish automotive sector's October exports increased by 16,4 percent compared to the same period last year, reaching $3 billion 582 million. The sector, which is again ranked first in Turkish exports, received a share of 15,2 percent. In the first 10 months of the year, automotive industry exports increased by 6,5 percent, reaching $30 billion 511 million.

OIB Board Chairman Baran Çelik said, “In October, we reached the highest monthly export figure ever with 3,6 billion dollars. There was a 31 percent increase in passenger cars and a 17 percent increase in the supply industry. Last month, France became the country to which our sector exported the most, leaving Germany and the United Kingdom behind with a 27 percent increase in exports. High increases of 66 percent were achieved to Slovenia, 43 percent to Romania and 42 percent to Spain.”

Supply industry exports increased by 17 percent

Last month, the exports of the Supply Industry, the largest product group, increased by 17 percent to $1 billion 395 million. Passenger Car exports increased by 31 percent to $1 billion 313 million, Motor Vehicles for the Transport of Goods exports decreased by 12 percent to $387 million, Bus-Minibus-Midibus exports increased by 5 percent to $224 million and Tractor Truck exports decreased by 16 percent to $154 million.

Exports to Germany, which is the largest export destination in the Supply Industry, increased by 16 percent, while exports to France increased by 38 percent, Romania by 71 percent, Spain by 72 percent, and Morocco by 36 percent. In passenger cars, exports to important markets such as France increased by 37 percent, Italy by 41 percent, Poland by 86 percent, Germany by 21 percent, Slovenia by 197 percent, and Spain by 76 percent.

In motor vehicles for the transport of goods, exports to the United Kingdom decreased by 5 percent, to Belgium by 38 percent, to Italy by 51 percent, to Germany by 44 percent, while increases were recorded by 37 percent to Spain and 31 percent to Ireland.

In the Bus-Minibus-Midibus product group, exports to important markets such as France increased by 15 percent and the United Kingdom by 73 percent, while exports to Germany decreased by 65 percent.

Exports to France increased by 27 percent

Last month, the biggest export was to France, up 27 percent, with exports reaching $469 million. The second largest market was Germany, up 2 percent, with exports reaching $445 million, while exports to the United Kingdom increased 17 percent, reaching $332 million. There were increases of 36 percent to Poland, 66 percent to Slovenia, 42 percent to Spain, 26 percent to Belgium, 12 percent to the United States, 43 percent to Romania, 150 percent to Morocco, and a decrease of 21 percent to Russia and 40 percent to Portugal.

Exports to EU Countries increased by 18 percent

In October, exports to European Union countries increased by 18 percent to 2 billion 512 million dollars, while the share of the largest country group was 71 percent. Other European countries ranked second with an 11,5 percent share of exports, while exports to this country group increased by 19 percent. There was a 17 percent increase to the North American Free Trade Area, a 15 percent increase to African countries, and a 19 percent decrease to Middle Eastern countries.
