Current Data on European Car Sales
According to data released by the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA), new car sales in the European Union (EU) increased by 0,2% in July compared to the same month last year. However, the pace of this increase slowed compared to the previous month, especially due to declines in major markets such as France and Germany.
In July, sales of battery electric and plug-in hybrid cars fell by 10,8% and 14,1% respectively, while sales of hybrid-electric cars increased significantly by 25,7%. This shows that the electric car market continues to lose market share.
Meanwhile, new car sales in the European Union rose by 4,3% in June, led by Italy, Germany and Spain, reaching the highest level since July 2019. Improvements in the electric vehicle (EV) markets in Belgium, the Netherlands and France were unable to offset a nearly 37% decline in battery electric car sales in Germany, ACEA said.
As of July, fully electric models and plug-in hybrids or full hybrids accounted for 50,9% of all new car sales, compared to 47% in the same period the previous year. These figures highlight the development and challenges of the European electric car market.
