Automotive Industry Association (OSD) announced the data for the first 2024 months of 5. Compared to the same period last year, total production decreased by 2 percent to 606 thousand 905 units.
Automobile production, which increased by 5 percent compared to the first 1 months of last year, reached 391 thousand 932 units. With tractor production, total production increased to 629 thousand 449 units. In the commercial vehicle group, production decreased by 5 percent in the first 7 months of the year, by 12 percent in the heavy commercial vehicle group and by 6 percent in the light commercial vehicle group. Compared to the first 2023 months of 5, the commercial vehicle market decreased by 8 percent, the heavy commercial vehicle market decreased by 7 percent, and the light commercial vehicle market decreased by 8 percent. In the first 5 months of the year, total automotive exports increased by 1 percent in terms of units and automobile exports increased by 2 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. During this period, total exports were 417 thousand 826 units and automobile exports were 269 thousand 349 units. In the 2024-month period of 5, the total market increased by 5 percent compared to the same period last year, closing at 491 thousand 482 units. During this period, the automobile market also increased by 10 percent and reached 375 thousand 97 units.
Automotive Manufacturers Association (OSD), which is the umbrella organization of the sector with its 13 members guiding the Turkish automotive industry, announced production and export figures and market data for the January-May period of 2024. Accordingly, in the first 5 months of the year, total automotive production decreased by 2 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 606 thousand 905 units. Automobile production increased by 1 percent to 391 thousand 932 units. Including tractor production, total production reached 629 thousand 449 units. In the first five months of the year, production in the commercial vehicle group decreased by 7 percent, in the heavy commercial vehicle group by 12 percent and in the light commercial vehicle group by 6 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. During this period, the capacity utilization rate of the automotive industry was 75 percent. Capacity utilization rates on a vehicle group basis were 75 percent in light vehicles (cars + light commercial vehicles), 82 percent in the truck group, 60 percent in the bus-midibus group and 72 percent in the tractor.
Exports reached 5 billion dollars in the first 15,1 months!
In the first five months of the year, automotive exports increased by 1 percent in terms of units compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 417 thousand 826 units. During this period, automobile exports grew by 2 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, while commercial vehicle exports decreased by 2 percent. Tractor exports decreased by 2023 percent compared to the same period in 15, reaching 7 thousand 289 units. According to the data of the Turkish Exporters Assembly, total automotive industry exports maintained its first place in the sectoral export rankings with 2024 percent in the first five months of 16. According to Uludağ Exporters' Associations (UIB) data, total automotive exports in the first five-month period increased by 2023 percent compared to the same period of 3, reaching 15,1 billion dollars. In Euro terms, it increased by 2 percent and reached 13,8 billion Euros. During this period, main industry exports increased by 3 percent and supply industry exports increased by 4 percent in dollar terms.
The total market approached 500 thousand units in five months!

When we look at the commercial vehicle market, in the first five months of the year, the total commercial vehicle market decreased by 8 percent, the heavy commercial vehicle market decreased by 7 percent, and the light commercial vehicle market decreased by 8 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. In the January-May period of 2024, the share of domestic vehicles in automobile sales was 31 percent, and the share of domestic vehicles in the light commercial vehicle market was 33 percent.
