Volkswagen's New Electric Commercial Vehicle Was Displayed in Camouflage!

Volkswagen is taking ambitious steps regarding electric vehicles. The German brand, which is making electrification moves in both passenger and commercial vehicles, is testing the new generation Transporter model. The vehicle captured by our spy photographers bears the traces of the collaboration with Ford.

Volkswagen Transporter Shares the Same Platform with Ford Transit Custom

Volkswagen is building its new Transporter model on the platform it developed jointly with Ford. This platform also forms the basis of the Ford Transit Custom model. For this reason, there are similarities between the two vehicles in terms of design and technique. The front design features a grille and headlights similar to Volkswagen's passenger-oriented Multivan T7 model. The side and rear design remains true to the lines of the Ford Transit. Vertical taillights also stand out as a detail that distinguishes Volkswagen from Ford.

Volkswagen Transporter's engine options are also provided by Ford. Like the Transit Custom model, there are diesel engines producing 109 hp, 134 hp, 148 hp and 168 hp. There is also a hybrid option that combines a 2.5-liter gasoline engine and an electric motor supported by a 11.8 kWh battery.

Full Electric Version of Volkswagen Transporter is also on the Way

Volkswagen is also preparing a fully electric version of the Transporter model. This version will use the same infrastructure as Ford's E-Transit model. Electric motors that can produce 135 hp or 217 hp will be paired with a battery with a capacity of 72 kWh and 125 kW DC-based fast charging support. In this way, the vehicle will have a range of 380 km.

The new generation of Volkswagen Transporter is expected to be introduced and put on sale in 2024. Volkswagen aims to increase its competitiveness in the commercial vehicle market by collaborating with Ford on electric vehicles.
