Cem Garipoğlu was born on October 20, 1991. Garipoğlu, the son of a wealthy family, dropped out of high school. He met Münevver Karabulut in 2008 and was together for a while. However, they broke up because his family was against the relationship. Garipoğlu killed Münevver Karabulut in her home on March 3, 2009. His body was found in a garbage container. Garipoğlu escaped for 197 days and surrendered on September 17, 2009. Garipoğlu, who was sent to Silivri Prison, was found dead in his cell on October 10, 2014. It was claimed that Garipoğlu committed suicide.
What is the Cem Garipoğlu Incident and How Did It Develop?
The Cem Garipoğlu incident became one of the most popular murder cases in Turkey. Garipoğlu strangled Münevver Karabulut to death on March 3, 2009. His body was found in a garbage container. Garipoğlu escaped after the murder and surrendered 197 days later. Garipoğlu confessed to committing the murder and was sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment. Garipoğlu attempted suicide many times during his time in prison. Garipoğlu was found dead in his cell on October 10, 2014. It was claimed that Garipoğlu committed suicide. However, Münevver Karabulut's family claimed that Garipoğlu did not commit suicide and that he ran away or was kidnapped. The family requested that Garipoğlu's grave be opened and a DNA test be performed. However, the application was rejected.
