Lando Norris commented on the racing speed of McLaren, which was inadequate compared to Aston Martin and Mercedes in the Dutch Grand Prix.
“I don't think our pace is bad,” Norris said. Our pace was good; but it wasn't good enough. Compared to Aston's, our speed was pretty bad, compared to Mercedes it was pretty awful." said.
The driver said that they performed better in qualifying, but they could not maintain this performance in the race. “So our pace was far from qualifying pace. Our one-lap pace is still much more competitive than our race pace.” said.
Norris said he had minor contact with George Russell during the race restarted after the red flag, which caused Russell to burst a tire.
“Now the cars are so sharp that if you touch them just a little bit, it feels like all four of your tires are flat,” the pilot said. said. “Just in a good way, we were racing wheel-to-wheel. I feel bad for what happened to him, but I couldn't have done anything different." said.
Norris said the race at Monza could also be difficult. “As Andrea [Stella] said, I think there was a lot of focus on getting the car we have now, which was absolutely the right decision,” he said. “But there was so much focus and time spent on that that there are some things we are quite behind on because of that.”
“But I would rather accept 80% good and 20% bad races than the other way around. We know that and we accept that, which is always a good thing. We know it will probably be a very tough race,” he said. “I doubt the weather will help in Monza. Maybe it will, but the straights are still our weak point at the moment and we will see what we can do.”
