Construction of Turkey's First Automotive Battery Factory Started

Construction of the Battery Development and Production Campus of Siro Clean Energy Storage Technologies has begun. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who attended the ceremony held in the Gemlik district of Bursa, announced that a Togg is produced every 3 minutes. Expressing that they will sell Togg to the whole world as of 2025, President Erdoğan noted that they will produce 2030 million vehicles by 1.

Siro campus, Turkey's first automotive battery factory, was designed to develop energy storage solutions in partnership with Turkey's global mobility brand Togg and Chinese energy giant Farasis. The facility, which will be established on an area of 607 thousand square meters next to Togg's production base in Gemlik, will reach an annual production capacity of 2031 GWh in 20.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan came to the ceremony, which was held due to the start of the construction of the campus, in his red Togg T10X office car in Anatolian color with a Presidential pen on it. Industry and Technology Minister Mustafa Varank and his wife Esra Varank, Togg Chairman Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, Togg partners Tuncay Özilhan, Bülent Aksu, Fuat Tosyalı, Ahmet Nazif Zorlu and Togg and Siro employees attended the ceremony.

HARVEST PERIOD

In his speech at the ceremony, President Erdoğan stated that there was almost a harvest period in terms of the Vision of the Century of Turkey and the National Technology Move. He reminded that they made the official opening of TÜBİTAK Vaccine and Drug Development Center.

FLAGSHIP

Recalling that they successfully carried out the first motion test of Turkey's domestic and national electric locomotive, Eskişehir 5000, President Erdoğan said: “We proudly delivered the flagship of our navy, TCG Anadolu, to our Naval Forces.” Pointing out that the TCG Anadolu is the world's first SİHA ship, President Erdoğan said, “Thus, we have gained a very strategic warship that will enable us to defend our rights in the Aegean, Eastern Mediterranean and Black Sea regions more strongly. Yesterday, we added a new one to our defense industry breakthroughs. We have delivered our new Altay Tank to our Armed Forces to be tested.” he said.

EUROPE'S PRODUCTION BASE

Noting that when they said "Turkey's automobile will be electric", they actually put forward a vision, they took a visionary step by foreseeing the transformation to be experienced in the automotive industry and the revolution in the world, and said, "To make Turkey a production base of Europe in charging and battery technologies along with electric vehicles. We set out with a target.”

FAST CHARGING STATIONS

Explaining that they have sowed the seeds of an innovative and sustainable future in the automotive industry in Turkey with Togg, President Erdoğan said, “Charging stations are another important link in this vision. Within the scope of the Electric Vehicles Fast Charging Stations Support Programme, we supported the installation of 81 charging stations in 572 provinces. The number of fast charging points, which was 2022 in August 250, exceeded 700, while the number of AC charging stations reached 3. These numbers will increase even more in the coming period.” he said.

A MASSIVE INVESTMENT

Emphasizing that the investments made in the field of battery technologies also have the potential to change Turkey's place in the world, President Erdoğan said, “Today, we are taking another step of a huge investment that will ensure Turkey to become a strong player in battery technologies. Siro, which was established in partnership with Farasis Energy to produce batteries for Togg smart devices, will develop and produce cell technology in our country.

HIGH NICKEL CONTENT

Reminding that Siro has already started mass production of battery modules and packages at the Togg Technology Campus, President Erdoğan stated that with the mass production of T-10-X, Togg's first smart device, Siro's production accelerated in March. President Erdoğan stated that with the commissioning of the facility, the construction of which has begun, the campus will become an integrated center producing battery modules and packages with high nickel content, including battery cells, by 2026. made its assessment.

President Erdoğan stated that 3 vehicle is produced every 1 minutes at Togg's facility in Gemlik, “This year, 28 thousand. We aim to bring 2030 million Toggs together with their owners by 1. Hopefully, starting from 2025, we will export TOGG and sell it to the whole world. With this investment, Siro will contribute 10 billion Euros to the national income in 30 years, over 10 billion Euros to reduce the current account deficit, and will support employment with 7 thousand employees.” made the statement.

THANKS AS A SCHOLARSHIP

In his speech at the ceremony, Minister Varank said the following: We are implementing the insignia projects of the Century of Turkey, which will develop Turkey and grow our bread, under the leadership of our President. There are signatures, instructions and follow-up of our President in the realization of Turkey's Automation and Siro investment. By bringing such important works to Turkey, we will build the Turkish Century together. As a Bursa citizen, I would like to thank you. I would like to express my gratitude to our President for bringing Turkey's Automobile factory and then this battery factory investment to Gemlik and Bursa.

OIL OF TOMORROW

Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, Chairman of the Board of Togg, also stated in his speech that Siro was the second big step in the technology journey that started with Togg and said, “As you know, we are an energy importing country. Together with Togg, we will seize a very important opportunity that we can call the oil of tomorrow. The oil of tomorrow is battery technologies.” said.

WE WILL BE ACTIVE IN 120 COUNTRIES

Making a presentation at the ceremony, Siro Chairman of the Board Gürcan Karakaş underlined that Siro will add added value to Turkey by developing the battery value chain and said, "There is a rapid transition to electric vehicles all over the world. Battery supply is far behind demand in Europe, and this will continue until 2030. TRUE zamWe will not only ensure battery supply security with the Siro investment we have implemented, but also be active in a region covering 120 countries, not only in our country, by catching the window of opportunity in the region.” he said.

OPPORTUNITY WINDOW

Keith Kepler, Siro Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors, said that with Siro, they started a new era in Turkey's electrification and said, “There is an important window of opportunity for batteries in the region surrounding Turkey until at least 2027. With the new campus, Siro will go to a different dimension as an integrated part of the Farasis network, it will grow especially by taking advantage of the opportunities in Europe.” made its assessment.

CELL, MODULE AND PACKAGE PRODUCTION

Siro Battery Development and Production Campus will be established on an area of 607 thousand square meters right next to Togg's production base in Gemlik. On the campus, which is planned to be completed by the end of 2024; cells, modules and packages will be produced. The last generation, high energy density battery cells will be produced.

INTEGRATED ENERGY STORAGE CENTER

With the Siro Battery Development and Production Campus, Turkey will become an important integrated energy storage center in Europe and the Middle East in its field. Thus, it will have the capability to develop and manufacture cells that are available in few countries. The campus is planned to increase its production capacity to 2031 GWh per year by 20. Siro will own the intellectual property rights of all products and solutions developed on campus. Thus, the company will provide fixed energy storage services for industrial applications, marine vessels and renewable energy to neighboring countries as well as Turkey.
