Delphi Technologies, a BorgWarner Inc brand, continues to diversify its product range with its innovative and high-quality production model. Delphi Technologies, the leader of the brake systems market, raises the bar even higher with its new product. In this context, Delphi Technologies, which develops bi-metallic brake discs, draws attention with its high carbon alloy structure. Bi-metallic discs, which are more than 15 percent lighter than discs made entirely of cast iron, not only have high braking ability, but also feel the effect in fuel consumption. With its two-piece structure, the new bi-metallic discs promise an experience that increases driving comfort by reducing vibration and therefore noise.

“Abrasion protection superior to a single layer”

The new bi-metallic brake discs developed by Delphi Technologies have a brand new coating that will provide significant advantages to both vehicle owners and workshops. The exclusive Magni™ coating used in the new product is designed to provide superior wear protection than a single layer. In addition, Magni™ coating is very environmentally friendly as less energy is consumed during production. The strikingly stylish appearance of the coating also adds to the attractiveness of the perforated, non-perforated and slotted discs using this coating.

The new discs initially focus on the most popular BMW models, with 1,7 million units in use across Europe. In the near future, Delphi Technologies will expand the use of the new bi-metallic brake discs with applications already in development for Toyota, Mercedes, Tesla, VAG, Jaguar and Land Rover models. Bi-metallic discs will continue to be developed with a focus on key models in the European markets at the peak of their service life.

“Quick solution for services”

Weak brakes are one of the biggest causes of failure in roadworthiness tests, often reported in vehicle inspections. By choosing these coated discs, which provide many benefits for their customers, services can increase sales volume and increase sales per invoice. The discs do not require cleaning prior to installation as they have no oil film and come with mounting screws for quick installation as soon as they are opened. Thus, workshops can provide a quick solution to their brake maintenance requirements.

Laurence Batchelor, Global Leader of Delphi Technologies Chassis Group, said: “We chose this coating because it provides wear protection without compromising the high performance of the brake discs. This new product range speeds up assembly, and in the long run, drivers achieve both ideal safety and fuel efficiency at a time when managing vehicle costs is of paramount importance. We have full faith in this brand new product. That's why we continue our investments to cover more applications, including hybrid and electric vehicles."

“Excellent results in tests”

These high performance brake discs from Delphi Technologies were subjected to noise and brake torque tests under controlled test conditions on advanced dynamometers to prove their brake performance and mechanical properties. In the abrasion stress test, comparing BMW's original coated disc to Delphi Technologies' Magni™ coated disc, the original disc showed wear in 120 hours, while Delphi Technologies' disc showed a much superior performance at 240 hours.

In addition, Delphi Technologies' bi-metallic discs are certified according to ECE Regulation 90, documented by German KBA authorities. Finally, these discs were subjected to various road tests under real road conditions at Delphi Technologies' technical center in the UK. Pointing to the importance of Delphi Technologies' aftermarket brake solutions to provide service shops with exclusive, original equipment-equivalent options, Delphi Technologies Chassis Group Global Leader Laurence Batchelor said, “We are also delighted that independent tests conducted in Germany have confirmed the superior capabilities of these discs. Our brake components often offer equivalent or better alternatives to market quality. For this reason, the services can be confident that they choose the best product for their customers.”
