Hyundai Motor Company shared the technical features and details of the KONA model, which it will launch in the first half of the year. The car, which will make its European premiere in the coming months, has multiple powertrains, including all-electric (EV), hybrid electric (HEV) and internal combustion gasoline engine (ICE).

Giving the impression of a higher class car by increasing its premium feel, Hyundai KONA draws attention with its futuristic design. zamIt also reflects the electrification strategy of the brand in the best way. The front and rear lighting system and the combination of sharp and soft lines reminiscent of a shark's nose start from the front and continue to the trunk lid. Hyundai's EV variant also differentiates itself with the Horizontal Pixelated Smooth Lamps “Pixelated Seamless Horizon” and this iconic design is used for the first time in the KONA model.

The sporty SUV character of KONA is embodied in fender arches with integrated front and rear lights, dynamically proportioned side panels and the characteristic chrome strip starting from the A-pillar to the rear spoiler. The specially designed multi-spoke 19-inch wheel design is also considered a first for the KONA model.

Gasoline and Hybrid options offer many different design features of the electric model. The radiator grille in the front bumper offers a three-dimensional design and stands out. Gasoline and Hybrid options also stand out with black fender pads for added design emphasis.

KONA Hybrid uses upper and lower active airfoils (AAF) and offers a better coefficient of friction than the petrol version. The outer active airfoil improves the aerodynamic performance of both engine options. zamAt the same time, it offers the feeling of a fully electric car.

The performance-inspired N Line equipment option, on the other hand, takes a more aggressive stance with a wing-shaped bumper, double mufflers and silver-colored side skirts to emphasize its sporty look. Additional options in this equipment include a black roof and 19-inch N Line special alloy wheel design. Inside, there are metal pedals specially offered for the N Line and the gear lever with the N logo.

The new KONA offers a wider and more versatile interior for greater passenger comfort and comfortable loading. KONA also offers a best-in-class living space with a 60mm longer wheelbase, 77mm longer legroom and 11mm higher headroom in the second row seats than the previous generation. The shoulder distance in the second row, which is the largest in its class, is 1.402 mm. KONA's thin and hard seats, which are only 85 mm thick, provide more living space for the second row passengers as well.

In addition to all these innovations, the column-type electric shift lever located behind the steering wheel, cup holders and storage areas for large bags provide more space for a simple console structure. The fully collapsible second row seat and rear compartment add up to a full 723 liters (according to SAE) to meet the highest level of customer needs with improved loading ease. The 12,3-inch integrated dual-screen display in Hyundai KONA supports ergonomically comfortable use, while at the same time zamOptimized for “weightless” body pressure distribution to help relieve fatigue after long distance riding.

Best-in-class technologies for added convenience

Maintenance and system updates of the new generation KONA are carried out electronically thanks to Over-the-Air (OTA) software technology. Ambient light, periodic maintenance and new features are also supported by OTA updates. The customizable smart electric tailgate offers added convenience for customers. Drivers can adjust the height and speed of the tailgate opening from the infotainment system screen.

Users can also adjust the preferred height of the tailgate by pressing the close button for three seconds. KONA's integrated memory system is also used for seat position settings. Multiple charging ports, including the wireless charging system, also offer more comfortable experiences while driving. Near field communication (NFC) is used in smartphones or smartwatches as part of electronic control technology. Thus, the New KONA can be locked, unlocked or operated remotely with a phone via the Digital Key 2 Touch, which provides a high level of security.

Safer driving with the brand new KONA

The new KONA is equipped with various advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), such as Forward Collision Avoidance Assist (FCA), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Blind Spot Collision Avoidance Assist (BCA), and Safe Exit Warning (SEW). Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA), Driver Attention Alert (DAW) and Blind Spot Vision Monitor (BVM) and High Beam Assist (HBA) are also some of KONA's advanced safety equipment. In addition, safety is brought to the highest levels with various driving convenience functions such as Intelligent Cruise Control (SCC), Navigation-based Intelligent Cruise Control (NSCC), Lane Keeping Assist (LFA) and Highway Driving Assistant (HDA). Various advanced technologies such as Surround View Monitor (SVM), Rear Cross Traffic Collision Avoidance Assist (RCCA) and Forward/Side/Rear Park Distance Warning (PDW) are offered for safe parking maneuvers. Park Collision Avoidance Assist (PCA) and Remote Intelligent Parking Assistance (RSPA) also help drivers a lot. While all these features in KONA vary according to the sales strategies of the markets and countries, in general, security is kept as the first target in all markets where it is offered for sale.

Hyundai will stand out in the European market with the 1.6T-GDi engine option. Although it has not been clearly announced yet, the power of the 1.6T-GDi gasoline turbo engine is expected to produce an estimated 198 horsepower and up to 265 Nm of torque. The KONA Hybrid, on the other hand, will come with a 141 hp 1.6-L GDi engine and is expected to offer up to 265 Nm of torque.

Hyundai will reveal all the technical specifications of KONA in March. The new KONA will be offered for sale in Turkey and will try to break new records in the B-SUV segment.
