German automaker Opel has embarked on a new offensive as part of its plans to offer an electrified version of every model in its portfolio by 2024 and to be an all-electric brand in Europe by 2028. Opel's new sub-brand GSe, which means "Grand Sport electric", created for performance electric models, is getting ready to hit the road with the Opel Astra GSe and Astra Sports Tourer GSe models in the compact class. Rechargeable hybrid models Astra GSe and Astra Sports Tourer GSe provide emission-free transportation as well as performance. The duo, which has a chassis exclusive to GSe, embodies both dynamic and environmental features with its sporty driving experience, special steering adjustment and unique suspensions. The 18-inch light-alloy wheels and special AGR certified GSe front seats offered in the famous Manta GSe concept stand out as special design details for the Opel GSe.

Opel collects the performance models in its comprehensive electric model range, from Corsa-e to Movano-e, under “Grand Sport electric” (Gse) as a separate sub-brand. As part of this strategy, models in the compact class are called Opel Astra GSe and Astra Sports Tourer GSe. With the announcement of the GSe sub-brand, the German brand with the lightning bolt logo has clear plans to offer an electric version of every model in its portfolio by 2024 and to become an all-electric brand in Europe by 2028. In this context, Opel offers the optimum balance between environmental responsibility, driving comfort and performance with its advanced technology rechargeable hybrid powertrain in Astra Sports Tourer and Astra hatchback models, which are positioned at the center of the GSe series. New Astra GSe and Astra Sports Tourer GSe with 165 kW/225 HP system power and 360 Nm maximum torque (WLTP combined fuel consumption: 1,2-1,1 l/100 km, CO2 emissions 26-25 g/km; provisional values ) are at the same level as the best in their class in criteria such as braking, acceleration and maximum speed.

Opel CEO Florian Huettl announced the new GSe models: “The new Astra GSe and the new Astra Sports Tourer GSe align with our strategy to be an all-electric brand by 2028. So they are the ideal cars to bring our dynamic new sub-brand to market. I am very happy to announce that GSe will return in the near future as the pinnacle of our product line and as our sporty sub-brand. Once again, we have taken inspiration from our rich heritage and given it a modern twist, as is our new acclaimed new, assertive and simple design language. The GSe logo will not only represent dynamic and fun cars in the future, but also zamIn line with our ambitious plans to become an all-electric brand now, Grand Sport will also represent the electric concept.” evaluated in his words.

New standards in efficiency and performance

The new models also set new standards for driving pleasure. Compared to its other siblings, the GSe versions exhibit more agile and more precise driving characteristics. Steering, suspension and braking systems provide an immediate and controlled response to driver orders. The German automaker offers performance-oriented handling features by equipping the new Opel Astra GSe models with a special chassis lowered by 10 millimeters. Compared to its competitors, the new models provide superior stability in cornering, braking and high-speed highway driving like any Opel. The sporty setup of the steering wheel is exclusive to the GSe. The springs and oil shock absorbers of the front and rear suspension not only provide superior driving dynamics but also zamIt has also been specially tuned for comfort at the same time. The shock absorbers feature KONI FSD (Frequency Selective Damping) technology, which provides different damping characteristics at high frequencies (Suspension Control) and low frequencies (Body Control). ESP settings are also specific to GSe models, and the activation threshold has been adjusted to suit dynamic driving behavior.

Bold and simple Astra design combined with signature GSe design elements

The new generation Opel Astra is the expression of bold and simple design for the brand. GSe's signature design cues give it an even more purposeful look. The 18-inch light-alloy wheels, special front bumper and front panel, and the GSe logo on the trunk lid, inspired by the highly acclaimed, fully electric Manta GSe concept, reinforce the dynamic GSe character. The performance-type front seats, decorated with Alcantara inside, emphasize the feeling of sportiness. These are not only specific to GSe, but also zamCurrently, thanks to its AGR certification, it supports Opel's long-standing reputation for superior seat ergonomics, especially in the compact class with the Astra. The Opel “GSe” logo was traditionally used as an abbreviation for the concept of Grand Sport Injection, as in the case of the Opel Commodore GS/E and the Opel Monza GSE. In its new form, Gse stands for “Grand Sport electric” as Opel's sporty sub-brand.

Inspired by legends

Opel recently launched the Manta GSe, a modern take on the 1970s Manta legend. This concept showed how immortal the lines of the 1970s are today. The sculptural, simple lines and design details used half a century ago were still in perfect harmony with the Opel design philosophy today. The strong and clear stance in design confidently launches an electrified, emission-free and exciting new future. Same as Opel Manta GSe zamat the moment; The new brand face, which organically combines the grille, lighting system and Şimşek logo into a single module, is also a tribute to Manta A, which inspired the “Opel Visor” design. This Visor is used on all new Opel models, including the new Opel Astra and Opel Astra Sports Tourer. Same as the award-winning Manta GSe zamAt the moment, it follows the brand's "electric only" approach to electrification, whether it's a passenger car or a light commercial vehicle. Opel today; It offers 12 electric models, from plug-in hybrid models like the Grandland and Astra to light commercial vehicles.
