Hyundai teamed up with Italian design firm GFG Style to rebuild the impressive Pony Coupe concept designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro in 1974. Father and son Giorgetto and Fabrizio Giugiaro, who are the owners of the design firm, are proud to be re-creating the model they brought to the automotive industry years ago. Working with Giorgetto and Fabrizio Giugiaro, Hyundai Motor Group Global Design Center President SangYup Lee and Creative Director Luc Donckerwolke will contribute to Hyundai's brand identity and history.

Luc Donckerwolke said, “We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Giorgetto and Fabrizio to Seoul for this redesign project and look forward to working with them on this extraordinary design project. zamIt also represents intercultural solidarity that can pave the way for more cooperation at the same time.”

Chairman SangYup Lee said, “The Pony and Pony Coupe Concept was one of the rare creations that influenced the designs of all of our production and concept vehicles, including the award-winning IONIQ 5 and the remarkable N Vision 74. It's been 48 years since our original concept car, and we've commissioned Giorgetto Giugiaro to bring it back to life while staying true to our design philosophy. Our aim is to shape the future with heritage”.

Collaborating almost half a century ago, Hyundai and Giugiaro launched the brand's first standalone model and zamAt the time he was working on designing Korea's first mass-production car. HE zamMoments Since there was no vehicle design and styling talent in Korea, Hyundai, which appointed the famous Italian Giugiaro to make design plans, handed over all the authority to build five different prototypes, one of which was a coupe. The Pony Coupe, which was a big hit at that time with its wedge-style nose, circular headlights and origami-like geometric lines, was designed for the North American and European markets. However, due to the global economic crisis in 1981, it could not start mass production.

The Pony Coupe Concept is still an important part of Hyundai's legacy and is the hallmark of Hyundai Motor Company Founder and Chairman Ju-Yong Chung's company vision. The concept has also been a major source of inspiration for Giugiaro's DeLorean DMC 1983, which was released in 12 and was also used in the 'Back to the Future' movies.

Hyundai was impressed by this legendary model in its concept called “2019”, which it introduced in 45, and without changing the design of this project much, it took it to the mass production line under the name IONIQ 5. In addition, Hyundai reinterpreted the original Pony production car as a restomod electric vehicle concept in 2021. In order to continue this special legacy, Hyundai introduced the N Vision 74 Coupe concept in the past months and especially excited performance enthusiasts.
