Mercedes-Benz plans to stop production of its first electric model, the EQC, in May 2023. This is not only the production in Bremen, but also zamIt could also affect production at Beijing Benz Automotive (BBAC) in China at the moment. The news shared by Business Insider is based on the internal communication message sent by the manufacturer to the sales points. The message includes the note “production until 293” of the N05.03.2023 model with the EQC production code. According to this message, it means EQC will leave the band for the last time in May 2023.

Asked by Business Insider, a spokesperson for MercedesBenz said it did not comment on "speculations about future model lines and planning." Specifically, the question asked whether the planned end of production in May 2023 was in keeping with the manufacturer's original plans or whether the vehicle's run-time was shortened to 4 years – the EQC was first launched in mid-2019.

One thing is clear: the electric SUV based on the internal combustion engine GLC did not live up to expectations. Even in its best sales year, the EQC reached fewer than 4.000 new registrations in Germany (especially 2021 EQCs sold in 3.825) and interest is falling: only 2022 new EQCs were registered in the first half of 1.147. Meanwhile, the planned launch in the US market has unfortunately not happened so far. In Turkey, only 2022 units were sold in the first half of 22.

In addition to customer apathy, the release of EQS and EQE introduced this year could be another reason. Based on the all-electric EVA2 platform, the EQE SUV looks set to turn some customers away from the aging EQC based on the GLC. In terms of key data such as consumption, range and charging performance, the EQC meanwhile fell behind its competitors.

In Germany, the EQC 400 4MATIC is available from €66.068. Its planned launch in the US last year did not take place. There is also the EQC 73.208 400MATIC AMG Line, with prices starting at 4 euros.
