Robotaksi competition, in which young people who develop original designs and algorithms in the field of autonomous vehicle technologies, competed. The 10 vehicles determined as a result of the competition run on a challenging track close to the real tracks will be showcased at TEKNOFEST, Turkey's first Aviation, Space and Technology Festival.

21 teams in the original vehicle category and 9 teams in the ready-made vehicle category competed in the competition, which was held under the partnership of TÜBİTAK and HAVELSAN and under the leadership of Turkey's technology and innovation base, Informatics Valley. Team IMU, the team that made the most original software in the original vehicle category, became the team with the best team spirit, Beu Ovat. Raclab, the team that makes the most original software in the ready-to-use vehicle class, was chosen as Talos, the team with the best team spirit.

AUTONOMOUS VEHICLES IN SMART CITIES

Informatics Valley General Manager A. Serdar İbrahimcioğlu stated that as Bilişim Vadisi, mobility technologies are at the forefront of their work in the field of civil technologies, “The dominant mobility system in the smart cities of the future will be realized with autonomous vehicles. We continue to work for our young people to become producers of this technology, not consumers. The Robotaksi Passenger Autonomous Vehicle Competition, hosted by Bilişim Vadisi in 2019, develops every year both in terms of participation and competition conditions. This year, the tracks were designed much more in line with the actual traffic patterns.” said.

HIGH OUR HOPES

Reminding that Informatics Valley also hosts Togg, General Manager İbrahimcioğlu said, “We continue with projects that aim to carry the positive effects of digital transformation in the field of disruptive technologies to all areas of civilian technologies. The results of our competition, in which we aimed to increase the human value in mobility technologies in our country and to enable young people to test themselves in this field, raised our hopes for our youth again. Congratulations to all the teams participating in the competition.” he said.

STRIPES HAVE REPLACED BAGGAGES

The Robotaxi Passenger Autonomous Vehicle Competition, which was held for the first time in 2018 within the scope of TEKNOFEST, has been run again within TEKNOFEST and under the main sponsorship of Informatics Valley since 2019. The teams competed on a more difficult track this year. Unlike previous years, this year the racing area has been made more suitable for real traffic. The runway area has been enlarged. The bollards have been removed. This year, autonomous vehicles raced by following lanes, not barges.

“CHANGE LANES” COMMAND

The track, which was a single lane in previous years, has now become a double lane. "Change lanes" command was given to the vehicles. For the first time this year, the racing vehicles tried to achieve one of the most challenging tasks, the intersection turning task. One of the innovations on the track was the disabled park. Driverless vehicles were asked to recognize the disabled parking sign and not park in this section.

VEHICLE SUPPORT FROM IT VALLEY

The competition was held in two categories. In the original vehicle class, the teams made all the mechanical production and software of the vehicles. In the ready vehicle category, the teams ran their software on autonomous vehicle platforms provided by TEKNOFEST. This year, vehicle support was provided by Ottomotiv, Robo Automation and Tragger companies under the management of Bilişim Vadisi.

FIGHT OF 32 TEAMS

This year, 120 teams applied to the Robotaksi competition. 21 teams competed in the original vehicle category and 9 teams competed in the ready-made vehicle category. There were 275 team members in the competing teams. Team Imu, the team that made the most original software in the original vehicle category, became the team with the best team spirit, Beu Ovat. Raclab, the team that makes the most original software in the ready-to-use vehicle class, was chosen as Talos, the team with the best team spirit. 10 vehicles competing in Robotaksi will take place in the thematic exhibition area of TEKNOFEST Black Sea, which will be held in Samsun between 30 August and 4 September.

PASSENGER TAKING AND DISCHARGING MISSION

Robotaksi Passenger Autonomous Vehicle Competition high school, associate degree, undergraduate, graduate students, graduates; You can participate individually or as a team. The teams demonstrate their autonomous driving performances on a track that reflects the urban traffic situation. In the competition, teams that fulfill the duties of picking up passengers, dropping passengers, reaching the parking area, parking and following the correct route in accordance with the rules are considered successful.

TRAFFIC RULES AND OBSTACLES

In the competition, vehicles travel from one point to another in the city, almost like a taxi. During this journey, passengers are picked up with the pick-up sign and left at the marked place on the route. Vehicles are asked to detect moving or stationary obstacles on the route by following the traffic rules.
