Automotive Production Increased 1,5 Percent in the First Half

Automotive Industry Association (OSD) announced the data for the January-June period. Automotive production in the first six months of the year increased by 2 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and amounted to 649 thousand 311 units, while automobile production decreased by 8 percent to 382 thousand 947 units. Together with the tractor production, the total production reached 673 thousand 991 units. In the same period, total automotive exports increased by 1,2 percent to 466 thousand 995 units, while automobile exports decreased by 9 percent to 271 thousand 54 units. In the January-June period, the total market decreased by 9 percent compared to the previous year and amounted to 375 thousand 683 units. During this period, the automobile market contracted by 10 percent and amounted to 278 thousand 282 units. According to the averages of the last 10 years, the total market increased by 3 percent and the automobile market by 4 percent in the first six months. While the heavy commercial vehicle market increased by 10 percent, the light commercial vehicle market was at a parallel level.

Automotive Industry Association (OSD), which is the umbrella organization of the sector with its 13 largest members that steer the Turkish automotive industry, has announced the production and export numbers and market data for the January-June period. Accordingly, in the first half of the year, total automotive production increased by 2 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, to 649 thousand 311 units, while automobile production decreased by 8 percent to 382 thousand 947 units. Together with the tractor production, the total production reached 673 thousand 991 units. During this period, the capacity utilization rate of the automotive industry was 67 percent. On the basis of vehicle group, capacity utilization rates were 67 percent in light vehicles (cars + light commercial vehicles), 88 percent in the truck group, 33 percent in the bus-midibus group, and 66 percent in tractors.

Production in the heavy commercial vehicle group increased by 26 percent!

In the January-June period, commercial vehicle production increased by 19 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. In this period, while production in the heavy commercial vehicle group increased by 26 percent, the production in the light commercial vehicle group increased by 18 percent. In the first half of the year, total commercial vehicle production increased by 19 percent and amounted to 266 thousand 364 units. Looking at the market, the commercial vehicle market decreased by 4 percent and the light commercial vehicle market by 6 percent, while the heavy commercial vehicle market increased by 3 percent in the January-June period compared to the same period of the previous year. Despite the increase in the heavy commercial vehicle group compared to the previous year, when the base effect is taken into account, the truck market shrank by 2015 percent and the bus and midibus market by 30 percent compared to 53.

The market was 10 percent above the 3-year averages!

In the period covering the first half of the year, the total market decreased by 9 percent compared to the previous year and amounted to 375 thousand 683 units. In this period, the automobile market also contracted by 10 percent and amounted to 278 thousand 282 units. Considering the averages of the last 10 years, the total market increased by 2021 percent and the automobile market by 3 percent in the January-June 4 period. While the heavy commercial vehicle market increased by 10 percent, the light commercial vehicle market was at the same level as last year. In this period, the share of domestic vehicles in automobile sales was 39 percent, while the share of domestic vehicles in the light commercial vehicle market was 59 percent.

The share of the sector in total exports was 12,1 percent!

In the first six months of the year, automotive exports increased by 1,2 percent on a unit basis compared to the same period of the previous year, and amounted to 466 thousand 995 units. Automobile exports decreased by 9 percent to 271 thousand 54 units. In the same period, tractor exports increased by 13 percent and were recorded as 8 thousand 906 units. According to the data of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM), automotive industry exports ranked second in the sectoral export ranking with a 12,1 percent share in total exports in the January-June period.

6 billion dollars export was made in 15,5 months!

In the January-June period, compared to the same period of the previous year, total automotive exports increased by 5 percent in dollar terms and 16 percent in euro terms. In this period, total automotive exports amounted to 15,5 billion dollars, while automobile exports decreased by 7 percent to 4,5 billion dollars. In Euro terms, automobile exports increased by 3 percent to 4,1 billion Euros. In the first six months of the year, exports of the main industry increased by 4 percent in dollar terms, while exports of the supply industry increased by 7 percent.
