Beijing, the capital of China, has started testing self-driving taxis in the Economic-Technological Development Area. It will place 60 unmanned vehicles on an area of 30 square kilometers and a normal fare schedule will be applied. Since April, a total of 300 thousand kilometers have been traveled by unmanned vehicles in Beijing, and more than 430 thousand passengers have benefited from this service.
The number of self-driving taxis is expected to increase in many parts of the capital in a short time. Because in May, Baidu and Pony Ai obtained the necessary license for their self-driving taxis, which they call 'robotaxis', to operate in Beijing. The permit is valid for a specific area of Beijing for now, but is expected to cover the entire city soon.
