With the signature of Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu, a letter was sent to 81 provincial governorships regarding automobile speed limits on highways.

In the article, by reminding the article 50 titled “Speed ​​Limits” of the Highway Traffic Law, the maximum and minimum speed limits that motor vehicles can be driven according to their type and usage purposes are 90 kilometers/hour on intercity two-way highways, 110 kilometers/hour on divided roads, and highways. It was stated that it was determined by the regulation not to exceed 120 kilometers per hour.

Implementation Starts Tomorrow

In this context, new speed limits were determined for automobiles on highways, with the approval of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure.

With the application that will start tomorrow; Edirne-Istanbul (European highway), Istanbul-Ankara (Anatolian Highway), Niğde-Mersin-Şanlıurfa (Niğde-Tarsus section, Tarsus-Şanlıurfa section) and Çeşme-İzmir-Aydın (Çeşme-İzmir section and İzmir-Aydin sections) highways. The current 120 km/h speed limit is increased by 10 km/h to 130 km/h, and it is 120 km/h on the Sakarya-Kurtköy-Odayeri-Kınalı section of the Northern Marmara highway, Malkara-Çanakkale, Gebze-İzmir /Menemen-Çandarlı, Ankara-Niğde highways. The speed limit was increased from 20 km/h to 140 km/h. In addition, the speed limit of 120 km/h will be increased by 20 km/h to 140 km/h when the highways under construction and to be designed are put into service.

Road Standards Considered

Within the scope of the application, which will start tomorrow, the road standards of the highways are taken into account, and the work on the traffic markings on the highways has been completed.
