Capturing a successful graphic with its global growth trend, Opel raised the bar in Turkey as well. Opel Turkey's 5 goal is to be in the top 2022 in every field, leaving Spain, which is among the global markets of the German giant, to the 5th rank. Focusing on the target of entering the top five in the total market, hatchback sales, light commercial vehicle market and SUV sales in Turkey, Opel started to reach these targets at the end of the first 5 months of the year.

Emphasizing that the top 5 targets in the short term and electrification targets in the long term are at the forefront, Opel Turkey General Manager Alpagut Girgin said, “We know that the Turkish automotive market has a significant potential. We anticipate that the market will become even more active in the last quarter of this year as the availability problems are overcome and logistics problems are reduced. Our goal is to reach a sales figure of 2022 thousand units in 45 and to be in the top 5 in every field. In the medium term, we will continue to grow with our electric models. We have a sales target of 2025 thousand units in Turkey in 70 and 10 thousand of these will come from electric models”.

Opel, one of the world's leading automobile manufacturers, continues its success in the field of mobility by raising its targets. The German giant, which achieved a growth trend by achieving global successful results in 2021, continues its development graph in 2022 by raising its targets. Turkey continues to have a significant share in the success achieved on a global scale. Opel Turkey, which managed to surpass Spain in the Opel markets in the first 2022 months of 4, rose to the 9th rank with sales of nearly 5 units, and took an important step in line with the "top 2022 in every field" motto it set for 5.

“We Achieved 5% of Our Year-End Target in the First 30 Months”

Opel Turkey General Manager Alpagut Girgin, emphasizing that Turkey has left Spain behind in the global Opel world and entered into 5 big markets, said, “Our brand completed 2021 in the 6th place among Opel's global markets on a unit basis. However, with nearly 2022 sales in the first 4 months of 9, we moved our position up one position and succeeded in rising to the 5th rank, leaving behind an important market like Spain. This gives us both pride and increases our dominance within the brand. We aim to maintain our current position until the end of the year. We achieved a sales of 4 thousand units in May, reaching 13 thousand units as of the end of the month, and we have already reached 30% of our year-end target.”

“Logistics Problems May Eliminate in the Last Quarter”

Alpagut Girgin said, “When we look at the market evaluation of Turkey, as you know, the first 4 months were a period of difficulties in supply and logistics. However, we do not foresee a bad year-end total market. We anticipate that logistics problems will decrease somewhat in the last quarter of the year, and accordingly, as both Opel and Stellantis groups, we shape our market forecast for 2022 as 765 thousand units. As Opel, our target is to exceed 45 thousand units.”

New Opel CEO Florian Huettl's First Visit to Turkey

Girgin said, “Our new CEO, Florian Huettl, who took office on June 1, will make his first market visit to Turkey. Of course, our current sales performance and our being one of the top 2 countries in the Opel world, leaving Spain behind, have an important role in this visit, which will take place for 5 full days. We will once again underline the importance of the Turkish market and convey our demands to it. This change will give us a maximum advantage as it has worked in the Turkish market before.

“2022 Will Be Our Transition Period to Electricity”

Emphasizing that they will have a big claim in electric vehicles in the future, Opel Turkey General Manager Alpagut Girgin said, “As Opel, we are assertive in electric vehicles. We aim to be the leading brand both within the Stellantis Group and in the sector. We will start selling the electric versions of our Mokka and Corsa models in the Turkish market this year, but we do not have a very aggressive electric vehicle volume for this year. Our primary goal in 2022 is to familiarize our dealers with this transition with our electric vehicle trainings, to complete our preparations, to ensure a smooth transition to electric vehicles without causing customer dissatisfaction, and to prepare the infrastructure for the next year. The fourth quarter will be a period in which we will take firm steps forward in this respect. "We will start selling electric vehicles very modestly in the fourth quarter," he said.

“2025 Thousand Electric Opels to be Sold in the Turkish Market in 10!”

Alpagut Girgin said, “Globally, 100% of every 8,5 vehicles we sold as Opel have been electrified. Corsa has a big influence here. Our Corsa sales were close to 25 percent. While electrification in the UK market was 2.5 times higher than we anticipated, the group's 5 percent target was realized as 8.5 percent. In 2022, the brand has a target of 15%. With our detailed preparations and infrastructure works in the Turkish market, we are working to offer the electric version of every model in our brand. The market may not be fully ready yet. We have established our strategy accordingly and by 2025, 15% of our total sales will be electric vehicles. In other words, one-seventh of our sales will come from electric vehicles,” he said.
