The gently backward sloping roofline and sloping D-pillar are typical of the Audi Avant glass design. The D-pillar rises fluidly from the rear of the vehicle. Eye-catching quattro wheel arches emphasize the width of the body and are organically integrated into the side surfaces.

The fender arches are connected by a specially shaped battery area above the lower panel. PPE – high ground clearance and low ride height

PPE is designed exclusively for battery electric power-train systems and can offer many advantages. One of the most important advantages is the battery module between the axles, which can store approximately 6 kWh of energy in the A100 Avant e-tron concept. The use of the entire vehicle floor enables an almost completely flat battery layout. Thus, a single platform can be used both in high ground vehicles and in vehicles with a dynamic, flat architecture, such as the Audi A6 Avant, without any change in the basic architecture.

Battery size and wheelbase of PPE vehicles can be scaled. This allows it to be used in different segments. However, a fairly long wheelbase and very short overhangs will all have in common. This, together with the large wheels, brings with it excellent body proportions in terms of both design and function. Reflecting the new platform, future PPE models will offer passengers a longer wheelbase, meaning a wider interior and more legroom in both rows of seats. This is a significant advantage in all segments. In addition, electric vehicles generally offer more living space because they do not have a transmission and shaft tunnel.

But even without the transmission and shaft tunnel, Audi customers don't have to give up on the brand's trademark quattro drive system. Future PPE models will optionally include versions with electronically coordinated electric motors on the front and rear axles to provide all-wheel drive and provide the perfect balance between driving dynamics and energy efficiency. The two electric motors of the Audi A6 Avant e-tron concept provide 350 kW of total power and 800 Nm of torque. This revolutionary technology will enter the high-volume mid-range and upper segments for the first time with PPE.

PPE technology allows charging times close to the refueling time required for vehicles powered by internal combustion engines. The battery can be charged in just 300 minutes to provide a range of over 10 kilometers. Models in the Audi A6 e-tron family offer enhanced long-distance compatibility with a range of up to 700 kilometers, depending on the powertrain and power version. Moreover, the close range and charging times of internal combustion engines make them universal cars, from short trips such as daily shopping to long trips.

Like most electric cars, the Audi A6 e-tron concept outperforms its internal combustion engine rivals in terms of driving dynamics. Even the base versions designed for efficiency can complete 0-100 km/h acceleration in less than seven seconds, thanks to the high torque available from the first start. On top-of-the-line high-performance models, this can even be reduced to under four seconds.

PPE – versatile, variable, electric

Audi's first all-electric mass production vehicle, the Audi e-tron, started hitting the roads in 2018. Since then, the brand has made progress systematically and rapidly by popularizing electric transportation in its entire product range. Following the Audi e-tron SUV and e-tron Sportback models, the highly dynamic e-tron GT quattro was introduced in February 2021, building on the new technology platform developed in partnership with Porsche AG. Just two months later, two extremely unique SUVs were introduced, the Audi Q4 e-tron and the Q4 Sportback e-tron, developed using the Volkswagen Group's MEB platform, a common technological platform for the compact segment.

The Audi A6 e-tron Sportback and Avant concept cars are the first members of a completely new vehicle family based on another innovative technology platform: Premium Platform Electric, or PPE for short. This platform will be used initially in the C-segment and later also in the B and D-segments. This modular system is being developed with Porsche AG under the leadership of Audi. The first mass-produced Audi models built on the PPE platform will be introduced consecutively from 2023.

PPE is the first platform designed to accommodate a range of high-volume cars, apart from high-ground SUVs and CUVs, including lower cars that are part of Audi's core product range, such as the Audi A6.
