Otokar, one of the Koç Group companies, announced its financial results for 2021. The company continued its steady growth in 2021. Otokar General Manager Serdar Görgüç stated that they continue their activities in harmony, cooperation and trust with all their stakeholders without slowing down; “Otokar's 2021 turnover reached 55 billion TL with an increase of 4,5 percent, and its operating profit reached 69 billion 1 million TL with an increase of 76 percent. In 2021, our exports will reach 345 million USD; We have increased our net profit to the level of 1 billion 42 million TL”.

Turkey's leading automotive and defense industry company Otokar shared its 2021 financial results. Otokar, which takes bold steps towards its global goals and operates in more than 5 countries in 60 continents, completed 2021 with a 55 percent growth in turnover compared to the previous year.

Otokar General Manager Serdar Görgüç stated that they continue their activities in domestic and foreign markets under the ongoing coronavirus pandemic conditions and said, “Our turnover in 2021 reached 55 billion TL with an increase of 4,5 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. We maintained our competitive position on a global scale and increased our exports to the level of 345 million USD. Our operating profit increased by 69 percent compared to the previous year and reached 1 billion 76 million TL, and our net profit reached 1 billion 42 million TL. In 2021, our commercial vehicle and defense industry sales showed a balanced distribution within our turnover.”

Serdar Görgüç stated that they continued to develop existing and new products throughout the year, and said, "Our research and development investments have increased by 49 percent compared to the previous year and amounted to 300 million TL in total, while the average share of our R&D expenditures in our turnover in the last 10 years has been 8 percent."

OTOKAR, TURKEY'S MOST PREFERRED BUS BRAND

Stating that they continue their leadership in the bus sector, General Manager Serdar Görgüç said; “We became Turkey's bus market leader for the 13th time; One out of every two buses sold in 2021 was Otokar. By winning Turkey's important urban transportation tenders, we once again became the bus supplier of Turkey's three big cities, Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir. Otokar was again the most preferred bus brand in tourism and shuttle transportation. I would like to thank our users for their trust in us.”

Pointing out that Otokar is one of the important players in the 8,5-ton truck market, in addition to the bus in commercial vehicles, Serdar Görgüç said, “We increased our sales in the 8,5-ton truck market, in which we operate, above the market growth.”

“TO GROW IN EUROPE WITH ALTERNATIVE FUEL BUS”

Stating that Otokar buses are used in passenger transportation in more than 50 countries, especially in Europe, Serdar Görgüç said: “In 2021, we continued our growth in our target market, Europe. Our buses that we produced for the capital of Slovakia started to serve. While we continue to export to countries such as Spain, France, Germany and Italy in Europe, we also received high volume orders from the Middle East. We take great pride in the fact that our buses designed and manufactured in Turkey are used in metropolises all over the world. Municipalities that have adopted sustainable urbanism within the scope of combating climate change, especially in Europe, continued to prefer alternative fuel vehicles in 2021. Our company, which is an important player in the global competition for alternative fuel vehicles, has received orders for natural gas city buses from Ukraine as well as Romania and Azerbaijan.”

Stating that they continue to promote Otokar's new generation electric bus in Turkey as well as throughout Europe, Görgüç said, “Our promotional tour for our electric city bus, which started with the transportation of 2 passengers at the IAA Mobility Fair in Germany, in Europe, Spain, Italy, Italy. It continued with France, Romania and the Benelux countries. Our tool has won great appreciation from users and operators. We aim to increase the number of products in this segment in Europe in the coming years.”

Continuing its investment activities at the factory in the field of commercial vehicles, the company started the production and deliveries of the first vehicles within the scope of the agreement signed in 2020 for the production of IVECO BUS buses in Turkey.

“WE TAKE AN IMPORTANT STEP TO DEVELOP AUTONOMOUS MILITARY VEHICLES”

Reminding that Otokar military vehicles, which actively serve in the defense industry in NATO countries and in the duties of the United Nations forces, are exported to more than 35 friendly and allied countries besides our country, Otokar General Manager Serdar Görgüç gave the following information about the work in the defense industry: With the removal of travel barriers due to the coronavirus pandemic, we had the opportunity to participate in events and fairs held all over the world and meet our users face to face. Our ARMA 8×8 armored vehicle and TULPAR tracked combat vehicle successfully completed the tests carried out by the Kazakhstan Army under harsh conditions. By signing an international cooperation agreement for autonomous military vehicle development and applications, we have taken an important step towards creating the unmanned land vehicles segment.”

“WE CARRY OUT OUR ACTIVITIES ON THE FOCUS OF SUSTAINABILITY”

Serdar Görgüç stated that Otokar, which takes firm steps towards its goal of becoming a global brand, continues to develop its technology and innovation capabilities; “Our R&D expenditure in 10 years has reached 1,6 billion TL. We have been in Borsa Istanbul's Sustainability Index for 6 years with our work on environment, social and governance issues. We conduct our activities with a focus on sustainability issues. While we continue to work on the effects of the Green Deal on our trade with the EU, we follow the 2050 Carbon Neutral Program, which is an important part of Koç Group's Cultural Transformation Program, with great care. In this direction, we are working on issues such as alternative fuels, energy efficiency and green purchasing.”
