Automotive Industry Association (OSD) announced the data for 2021. The automotive industry, which made exports worth 29,9 billion dollars last year, retained its top position in Turkey's exports in its 13th year, taking a 16 percent share from total exports.

Automotive Industry Association (OSD), which is the umbrella organization of the sector with its 13 largest members that steer the Turkish automotive industry, has announced to the public the production and export numbers and market data for 2021. In this context; Total production in 2021 decreased by 2020 percent compared to 2, reaching 1 million 276 thousand 140 units, while automobile production decreased by 8 percent to 782 thousand 835 units. Together with the tractor production, the total production reached 1 million 331 thousand 643 units.

According to the OSD data, the production of the Turkish automotive industry in December decreased by 12,1% compared to the same month of the previous year and became 131 thousand 557 vehicles, while 76 thousand 570 automobiles were produced in the same period. In addition, the capacity utilization rate of the automotive industry in 2021 was 65 percent. On the basis of vehicle group, the capacity utilization rates were 64 percent in light vehicles (cars + light commercial vehicles), 83 percent in the truck group, 31 percent in the bus-midibus group and 74 percent in the tractor.

Commercial vehicle production increased by 11 percent

According to OSD reports, commercial vehicle production increased by 2021 percent in 11 compared to the previous year. In this period, production increased by 9 percent in the light commercial vehicle group and 40 percent in the heavy commercial vehicle group. Looking at the market; Compared to 2020, the total commercial vehicle market increased by 13 percent, the light commercial vehicle market by 8 percent and the heavy commercial vehicle market by 51 percent. Considering the base effect, the commercial vehicle market in 2021 lagged 2017 percent behind 20. In December alone, the production of commercial vehicles carrying cargo and passengers was 54 thousand 987 units, and tractor production was 4 thousand 627 units.

Truck market grew by 56 percent

In 2021, the automotive market decreased by 2020 percent compared to 3 and became 772 thousand 722. In the same period, the automobile market decreased by 8 percent and became 561 thousand 853 units. Considering the averages of the last 10 years, in 2021, the total market decreased by 8 percent, the automobile market by 8 percent and the light commercial vehicle market by 10 percent, while the heavy commercial vehicle market was at a level parallel to the average. In 2021, the share of domestic vehicles in the automobile market was 40 percent, while the share of domestic vehicles in the light commercial vehicle market was 56 percent.

Automotive became the champion of exports again

In 2021, automotive exports increased by 2020 percent on the basis of units compared to 2 and amounted to 937 thousand 5 units. Automobile exports decreased by 5 percent to 565 thousand 361 units. Tractor exports, on the other hand, increased by 2020% compared to 26 and amounted to 17 thousand 38 units. According to the data of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM); The automotive industry realized 13 percent of total exports and continued to be the export champion for 16 consecutive years.

29,9 billion dollars of exports

Compared to 2021, total automotive exports increased by 2020 percent in dollar terms and 15 percent in euro terms in 12. In 2020, total automotive exports amounted to 29,9 billion dollars, while automobile exports decreased by 0,4 percent to 9,3 billion dollars. In Euro terms, automobile exports decreased by 3 percent to 7,9 billion Euros. In the same period, exports of the main industry increased by 10 percent in dollar terms, while exports of the supply industry increased by 25 percent.
