Mercedes-Benz eActros, the first electric heavy-duty truck of Mercedes-Benz Trucks, has been put into mass production as of 2021. In the process of transforming the Mercedes-Benz eActros from a prototype to a mass-produced vehicle, the eActros, which was developed and put into mass production according to the results of customer tests analyzed since 2018, has Mercedes-Benz Türk Truck R&D signature.

While some systems developed by the Mercedes-Benz Türk Trucks R&D team for eActros took place for the first time in heavy commercial vehicles under the umbrella of Daimler Truck; Mercedes-Benz Türk Truck R&D teams were entirely responsible for systems such as the starting battery and cables and low voltage power distribution units.

R&D teams developed AVAS (Voice Pedestrian Warning System), In-Cabin Emergency Driver Alert System, and High and Low Voltage Power Systems in eActros. In addition, Mercedes-Benz Türk Truck R&D team has its signature in development activities in global project support and coordination, chassis & cabin modeling and calculation issues.

Tuba Cağaloğlu Mai, Mercedes-Benz Türk Trucks R&D Director, said, “Our Istanbul R&D Center and Aksaray R&D Center, which have a very important position within the Daimler Truck network, have competencies in a wide variety of fields. Various scopes of Mercedes-Benz eActros, the first mass-produced electric truck bearing the Mercedes-Benz star, were also developed by our Mercedes-Benz Türk Trucks R&D teams. While some of the systems we developed for eActros took place for the first time in heavy commercial vehicles under the umbrella of Daimler Truck, the responsibility of some systems rested entirely with Mercedes-Benz Türk Trucks R&D teams. While determining the future of Mercedes-Benz star trucks from Turkey, we are also strengthening the position of both our country and Aksaray thanks to the engineering exports we have realized.” said.

Huge charging station investment for electric trucks

Mercedes-Benz Türk is breaking new ground in Turkey with the installation of a high voltage charging station for electric trucks and tow trucks. In the first phase of the project, which is planned to be completed in two stages, investment in 350 charging stations providing 2KW capacity at once is being made. A new investment of approximately 2021 thousand Euros was made for this investment, which is planned to be commissioned in December 400.

Projects developed by Mercedes-Benz Türk Trucks R&D team:

AVAS – Audible pedestrian warning system

An audio warning system was developed by the Mercedes-Benz Türk Trucks R&D team in order to make the eActros, which is very quiet due to its structure, audible to pedestrians. Audible pedestrian warning system (AVAS), specially designed for Mercedes-Benz branded electric trucks and to be used only in electric trucks, emits an artificial safety sound according to vehicle acceleration. This system used in eActros does not give an audible warning when the vehicle is not moving and above a certain speed. The system activates at low speeds. The goal here is for the eActros to be noticed by pedestrians. AVAS is included in all manufactured eActros.

In-cab Emergency Driver Alert System

Another system developed by Mercedes-Benz Türk Trucks R&D teams for eActros was the "In-Cabin Emergency Driver Alert System". Developed entirely by Mercedes-Benz Türk R&D engineers, the Cabin Emergency Driver Alert System warns the driver in the cabin in case of an emergency in electric vehicles. The system will be used in other electric truck models under the umbrella of Daimler Truck, as well as eActros.

High and Low Voltage Power Systems

In eActros, many components of the high and low voltage power system in all electric vehicles were developed by Mercedes-Benz Türk Trucks R&D teams. These components include low voltage power distribution, low voltage battery cables, low voltage whole vehicle wiring, high voltage charging line fuse and high voltage system safety and starting batteries. High voltage charging line insurance and high voltage system safety are used for the first time in heavy commercial vehicles under the umbrella of Daimler Truck.
