Soyer: It inspires our country”

Stating that the climate crisis has increased the tendency towards electric vehicles and the use of shared vehicles has begun to take an important place in the transportation planning of world cities, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer said, “We are expanding the electric vehicle fleet of our Municipality in order to increase the quality of life of our citizens in Izmir and to fight against the climate crisis, on the other hand. We are sharing some of these tools. Our municipality's electric vehicle fleet within İZELMAN consists of 50 vehicles. 40 of them are used by the service units of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and our companies. One is my official vehicle, I use it for urban transportation. We integrated the 10 electric vehicles we launched today into the MOOV Car Sharing System operating in Izmir and offered them to our citizens. This application is one of the first applications in the world where a municipality subsidiary includes its own electric vehicles in the private car sharing system. İzmir Metropolitan Municipality inspires our country with this aspect as well.”

“We will increase the number to 30”

President Soyer, who talked about the contribution of shared vehicle use to the reduction of traffic density and the country's economy and environment, gave the following information about their work to increase the use of electric vehicles in the city:

“The world is rapidly evolving towards the use of electric vehicles. We have started to establish charging stations in our multi-storey car parks in İzmir since 2020, and we have completed this process in 70% of them. By the beginning of 2022, we will have established charging stations in all our multi-storey car parks. With the decision we made in the October session of the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Council, we started to give a 50 percent discount to electric vehicles in the parking lots of our Municipality. Our citizens from Izmir, who have fully electric vehicles, will benefit from all parking tariffs with a 50 percent discount. Another reason for our goal of popularizing electric vehicles in İzmir is fuel savings. For example, by the end of 2021, we will save 50 thousand TL in fuel thanks to our 500 electric vehicles. In 2022, we foresee savings of approximately 1 million liras. In 2022, we plan to add 50 more electric vehicles to our fleet and gradually increase the vehicles in the sharing system to 20, then to 30," he said.

Ayyıldız: “We are happy”

Emre Ayyıldız, CEO of MOOV, stated that for the first time in Turkey, electric cars were opened to public use with the support of the local government, with the car sharing model, and said, “With MOOV, Turkey's first free-roaming car sharing application, we are putting our signature under applications that are shown as an example in the world. Short zamWe've come a long way at the same time, and today, breaking new ground, we included electric vehicles in our fleet for the first time in Turkey with the support of the municipality. We have presented the equality of opportunity we offer in transportation for the electric vehicle experience as well. Our users, whom we define as MOOVER, want this experience in Izmir. zamThey can live as long as they want. We are very happy to be a part of this project with the support of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality”.

The transportation model of the future

Underlining that car sharing is a system that changes the way of transportation and provides maximum benefit to the user, society, environment and traffic, Ayyıldız said, “Car sharing is the transportation model of the future. As MOOV, we already see the importance and future position of car sharing and continue our work with this awareness. We aim to expand car sharing in our country, both with our current work and in the future, with the support of our MOOVERs and city administrators, and with the principle of equal opportunity in transportation, so that more people can experience this comfortable and environmentally friendly experience.”

What is MOOV?

Moov is a sharing economy app. Minute rentals are made with the application downloaded to smartphones. In short, it can be summarized as "Take the vehicle from wherever you want, use it as much as you need, drop it wherever you want". The person who wants to rent a car sees the vehicles closest to him through the application and starts the rental by going to them. The doors of the vehicle are opened via the application. The key is taken from the glove compartment and the expiration date begins. Charges are made according to the time used. Fuel and insurance costs are included in the price.
