Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Specialist Associate Professor Ahmet İnanır gave important information on the subject. Of all the joints, the shoulder joint is the most mobile in our body. shoulder joint; It is a joint that is open to trauma, which provides great advantages in working life, sports activities and daily works. There are some factors that cause pain in the shoulder joint. The most common causes and treatments for shoulder pain are;
Muscle pains
Various peripheral muscle problems, especially Fibromyalgia Syndrome, Myofascial pain syndrome, can cause shoulder pain.
Muscle and Nerve Compression
Neck hernias (C4-7), Brachial plexus neuropathies, Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy can cause shoulder pain. Impingement syndrome may develop as a result of compression and inflammation of the supraspinatus muscle tendon, bicipital tendon and subacromial bursa between the humeral head and the chorocoacromial arch. Acromioclavicular joint pathologies, osteophytes, bursitis, proximal humerus fracture, kyphosis, scoliosis and anterior 1/3 structural changes of the acromion may also contribute to compression.
Labrum (Capsule) Tears
Due to the tears usually seen in the labrum, the labrum cannot do its job and shoulder instability develops. This situation occurs during shoulder dislocations due to acute traumas, and more lesions may occur on the labrum and joint surfaces due to the recurrence of dislocations in the future. Shoulder instability not related to trauma can also develop. This may occur due to dislocations that develop due to the looseness of the tendons, ligaments and muscles around the shoulder. This shape of shoulder instability may not be accompanied by a labrum tear.
Muscle Tears
Muscle tears, especially the supraspinatus muscle, which is a member of the muscle group called the rotator cuff, are among the causes of shoulder pain and limitation. Biceps muscle tendinitis and calcific tendinitis can also cause pain.
Dull Shoulder
Frozen shoulder syndrome (adhesive capsulitis) is a condition that initially starts with shoulder pain and progresses to limitation of shoulder mobility as a result of joint inflammation of the shoulder joint capsule and joint joint synovium. Although it usually develops in one shoulder, it can affect both shoulders. Keeping the shoulder fixed for a long time as a result of traumas such as bumps and falls can trigger this disease. Shoulder calcification, prolonged resting after trauma, diabetes, heart disease and lung diseases may predispose to the development of frozen shoulder.
Shoulder Joint Pathologies
Glenohumeral osteoarthritis of the shoulder joint (calcification), osteochondral lesions, acromioclavicular joint osteoarthritis, avascular necrosis, rheumatoid arthritis, Polymyalgia rheumatica, pseudogout, gout diseases and scapulothoracic joint pathologies can be counted among the diseases or disorders that can cause shoulder pain.
