The Turkish Automotive Supply Industry's umbrella organization, Automotive Vehicles Procurement Manufacturers Association (TAYSAD), held the first of the "Electric Vehicles Day" event series. In the event organized with the intense participation of TAYSAD members; Along with the electrification process in the automotive industry, the risks and opportunities in the supply industry, which have a critical importance in this process, were scrutinized. Evaluating the event, TAYSAD President Albert Saydam stated that they steered their work with the slogan "Smart, Environmentalist, Sustainable Solutions" and said, "We put the technological transformation in the sector at the center of all our works, and we not only tell this, but also enable our members to touch and examine these new technologies. Thus, we want all our members to internalize the electrification process.”

In his opening speech, TAYSAD Vice Chairman of the Board Berke Ercan said, “If the supply industry does not act on electrification and autonomy, there is a risk that the rate of domestic parts, which is currently in the range of 70-80%, in the vehicles produced by vehicle manufacturers in Turkey, may decrease to 20%. This is a very serious problem,” he said. Arsan Danışmanlık founding partner Yalçın Arsan said, “Now this process is a permanent global transformation. As the supply industry; We have time to anticipate this change and implement it correctly. As long as we take this change into account," he said.

Turkey's pioneer in the field of production and export, making a great contribution to the automotive industry, and the sole representative of the Turkish automotive supply industry with nearly 480 members, the Automotive Vehicles Supply Manufacturers Association (TAYSAD) organizes the "Electric Vehicles Day" event to see the developments in the electrification process around the world. scrutinized. Many TAYSAD members attended the event. In the organization where experts in their fields took part as speakers; The reflections of the electrification process in the automotive industry around the world on the supply industry, the risks and opportunities created by this situation were discussed. Making statements about the event, TAYSAD President Albert Saydam stated that they direct their work with the slogan of "Smart, Environmentalist, Sustainable Solutions" and said, "We put the technological transformation in the sector at the center of all our works, and we not only tell this, but also enable our members to touch and examine these new technologies. Thus, we want all our members to internalize the electrification process.”

“There are both opportunities and great risks”

TAYSAD Deputy Chairman of the Board Berke Ercan, who made the opening speech of the event, said, “We could see that the electrification process was coming towards us like a tsunami wave, but it was not possible to predict how fast it was coming from a distance. We see now that electrification will enter the market faster than expected.” Explaining that many countries have taken important decisions on this issue, and in this context, the issue of not producing internal combustion engine vehicles is frequently on the agenda, Ercan said, “At this point, 2030 years are being talked about. So it's a very near future. Autonomy comes next. In the light of these developments, there are opportunities and risks ahead of us as the Turkish automotive supply industry. If the supply industry does not act on electrification and autonomy, there is a risk that the ratio of domestic parts, which is approximately 70-80%, in the vehicles produced by vehicle manufacturers in Turkey, will decrease to 20%. This is a very serious problem for both the supply industry and the automotive main industry. Because it is very difficult to think of a main industry that does not have a supply industry next to it. That's why TAYSAD and the Automotive Industry Association (OSD) are in close cooperation.”

“The automotive ecosystem needs to be restructured”

Yalçın Arsan, the founding partner of Arsan Danışmanlık, also made important statements about the development of the electrification process around the world and the effects of this situation on the supply industry. Arsan said, “The electrification process covers a wider area than we thought. This issue is a global dynamic that is not limited to automotive. Maybe we have been discussing this issue for the last 10 years, but this process, which has a history of almost 100 years, is actually a permanent transformation. The entire automotive ecosystem needs to be restructured to produce, distribute, sell and serve electric vehicles. Factories are being revised, the places where R&D budgets are spent are changing. Priorities are changing, we see that brands and companies in our industry develop different perspectives in this field. We will see that countries and brands that understand and prepare well for the content of this great transformation will differentiate from their competitors in the near future.”

Reduction in battery costs!

Referring to the battery prices, which is the most important element of the cost of electric vehicles, Arsan said, “Experts and academics, who closely follow the development in this area, said that once the price of the battery drops below $100 per kilowatt-hour, the cost gap between electric cars and vehicles with internal combustion engines will be completely closed, that is, it assumes that production costs will be equalized. While talking about 2017-odd dollars in 800, this figure is 140 dollars today. Therefore, this issue is moving very fast and has become the metric that traditional automotive manufacturers should follow closely. "Once this threshold is crossed, the return to electric cars will accelerate dramatically."

“Investments you make today will save you tomorrow”

Ford Otosan Deputy General Manager of Purchasing Murat Senir talked about the developments in electric vehicles around the world. Murat Senir said, “Currently, the electric vehicle component suppliers that dominate the market are those who started their investments 5-6 years ago with the motto 'Fossil fuels are running out, let's change our production focus'. It's actually about seeing opportunities and starting the transformation with an entrepreneurial mindset. Maybe the suppliers I mentioned made serious investments for transformation yesterday and waited for a long time for these investments to return, but today they are using it to their advantage. OEMs need that technology, capacity and competence. As a result, today you may think that you are losing some of your equity by investing in a future with serious uncertainties, but tomorrow you will definitely win. This is no longer a vision, it has become reality. We must continue to create value, grow our ecosystem, and raise our place in the world.”

“We are working with Ford Otosan and Anadolu Isuzu on electric vehicles”

Making statements to TAYSAD members, TAYSAD Deputy Chairman Berke Ercan said, “As TAYSAD, we have embarked on a different behavior model regarding electric vehicles. We work with Ford Otosan and Anadolu Isuzu. We have prepared a survey on electric vehicles that is open to the participation of our members. We received the works of our members who have studies on this subject, and talked to them. 42 of our members are back. At the moment, we are working with Ford Otosan on what can be localized in electric vehicle components and sub-parts, and what can be produced by our members. This is the first time that TAYSAD is doing such a study. Of course, we will take part in these studies up to a certain point. Ford Otosan already continues to work with suppliers, and we are involved in supporting this process. We are doing a similar study with Anadolu Isuzu. All of our members can participate in these activities," he said.

Participants at the event; MG had the opportunity to examine and test drive the electric vehicles brought by Suzuki, Altınay, Ford Otosan, Anadolu Isuzu and Tragger. In addition, TAYSAD members Altınay, CDMMobil, Sertplas and Alkor also took part in the exhibition area with the parts they produced for electric vehicles.
