Breast Cancer Patients Shovel Against Cancer

Breast cancer is among the most common cancers in women. About twenty thousand women are diagnosed with breast cancer every year in Turkey. A healthy and active life and motivation have an important place in the success of treatment in breast cancer patients. Memorial Health Group organized the event “We are not afraid of breast cancer, we are rowing against breast cancer” in order to raise social awareness about breast cancer and to draw attention to the positive effects of an active lifestyle in cancer patients, as part of “October 1-31 Breast Cancer Awareness Month”. Professor from Memorial Bahçelievler Hospital Breast Health Center. Dr. Under the management of Fatih Aydoğan, teams consisting of breast cancer patients who were undergoing treatment competed.

Regular physical activity and high morale keep them alive

Breast cancer patients keep their morale and motivation high even after they recover. zamThe competition, in which they voluntarily participated in order to show that they can continue sports and a healthy life at the same time, took place at Vira Rowing Club Santral Istanbul. In the organization held on Tuesday, October 26, 3 rowing teams competed fiercely.

Exercise is prescribed to patients

Emphasizing that it is very important to ensure both physical, mental and social well-being for breast cancer patients, Prof. Dr. Fatih Aydoğan conveyed the importance of active life in cancer prevention and cancer treatment process with the following words:

“The increase in adipose tissue in the body means an increased risk for many types of cancer. Breast cancer is one of the cancer types with an increased risk due to the increase in adipose tissue. For this reason, it is among the cancer types that exercise and active life provide high benefits. Today, exercise movements are prescribed to cancer patients. It is known that this reflects positively on both the treatment process and the morale and motivation of the patient. Today, we came together with our patients to draw attention to this issue.

One out of every 6 patients is in their 20s and 30s.

Stating that the average age of breast cancer in Turkey is 10 years younger than Europe and America, Prof. Dr. Fatih Aydoğan ended his words as follows:

“16-17% of patients diagnosed with breast cancer are under the age of 40. In other words, we see that one out of every 6 patients is in their 20s and 30s. A holistic approach is required for cancer treatment to be fully successful. While regular exercise and active life increase the morale and motivation of patients, they both help reduce the side effects of treatment and reduce the risk of cancer by providing weight loss.”
