Bursa Uludağ University (BUÜ) Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Saim Guide and Automotive Industry Exporters' Association (OİB) Chairman of the Board Baran Çelik attended as speakers.

Speaking at the opening of the organization with the main theme of 'New Concepts and Solutions for Vehicles and Mobility', Automotive Industry Exporters' Association (OİB) Chairman Baran Çelik said, “We are going through a major transformation in which the automotive industry has entered the era of electric and autonomous vehicles. It is very important for our automotive exporters to prepare for this process as soon as possible. Considering the great transformation in the automotive industry, our past successes do not guarantee our future.”

Çelik, who also shared the figures with the audience, said, “In EU countries, our most important market, in the first half of 2021, electric car sales increased by 130%, plug-in hybrid car sales increased by 214% and hybrid car sales increased by 149%. The market share of electric cars was 7%, the market share of plug-in hybrid cars was 8%, and the market share of hybrid cars was 19%. The market share of diesel cars decreased to 22%. A good example of showing the impact of the transformation in the automotive industry was the announcement that Russia, one of the world's largest gas and oil producers, allocated $ 8 billion to its electric vehicle strategy. Within the scope of the strategy, it is aimed to produce at least 2024 electric vehicles, establish 25.000 charging stations in Russia by 9.400, and by 2030, 10% of the vehicles produced in Russia will be electric and 72.000 charging stations will be reached.

In order not to lose the European market…

Saying that it is very important for us to invest in new technologies and electric vehicles in order not to lose the European market and to maintain the competitiveness of our automotive industry, Çelik concluded his words as follows: It is expected to increase to 2020 million units in 3,1. This number corresponds to 2025 percent of global vehicle sales in 14. According to another estimate, there will be 2025 million electric vehicles in Europe by 16. In short, all forecasts predict that the number of electric vehicles will increase significantly in the near future. One of the most important factors in this will be the green transformation shaped by the Green Agreement in Europe.”

BUÜ contributes to the sector…

Speaking at the opening of the program, Bursa Uludağ University Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Saim Guide also said, “We have opened important departments in our university in order to contribute to the automotive industry at both associate, undergraduate and graduate levels with education and training activities. Last year, we launched the Hybrid and Electric Vehicles Technology Program at our Vocational School of Technical Sciences, and we took around 60 students to this program. At the undergraduate level, we have an Automotive Engineering department that performs very important tasks. This department adds value to the sector with its graduates. At the graduate point, we will contribute to education and the sector with the Electric and Hybrid Vehicles Master's program with our application to YÖK this year.”

After the opening speeches, important national and international figures made presentations on the subject. The International Automotive Technologies Congress 2020 (OTEKON 2020) will end on Tuesday, September 7th.
