Hyundai Motor Group has announced its brand new vision for hydrogen as a fuel and to expand this energy globally. Sharing this vision at the Hydrogen Wave Global forum held today, Hyundai presented its expansion plans that will enable more hydrogen to be used in daily life, especially in transportation and other industrial sectors.
While Hyundai aims to go a long way in hydrogen by 2040, the same zamAt the same time, it continues its leadership in clean sustainable energy for all types of mobility. In this context, Hyundai shared its unprecedented plans to encompass the electrification of all new commercial vehicle models, mostly involving hydrogen fuel cell electric or battery electric powertrains, as well as the application of fuel cell systems.
By 2028, the South Korean automotive giant will follow a bold strategy in all its models, helping to reshape the industry and realize a sustainable clean future. Hyundai aims to become the pioneer of the commercial vehicle industry, especially with its models with alternative fuel types. This vision of Hyundai will apply hydrogen energy in every aspect of life and industry, such as homes, businesses and factories. The main goal is to make hydrogen readily available to everyone, everything and everywhere. The group also plans to minimize the price gap between battery electric vehicle (BEV) and fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEV) by 2030.
Having come a long way since the development of the first fuel cell electric (FCEV) model in 1998 for the first time, Hyundai introduced the Tucson FCEV (ix2013 Fuel Cell) model by opening the door to mass production of FCEVs in 35. It then launched the NEXO, the next generation fuel cell SUV model, in 2018, and the XCIENT Fuel Cell truck, the world's first fuel cell heavy vehicle, in 2020. This heavy vehicle, also called a driverless truck, will provide companies with incredible conveniences, especially in road transportation.
Apart from passenger and commercial vehicles, it aims to use the hydrogen fuel cell in high-performance cars, urban air mobility, robots, aircraft and ships. Apart from transportation, it will also put forward hydrogen to provide electricity and heating to buildings, urban energy sources and power plants.
To achieve these goals, Hyundai plans to launch a next-generation fuel cell system in 2023 that realizes significantly improved durability and efficiency, as well as a lower price and volume. Thanks to ongoing R&D efforts, the brand's engineers have been able to significantly reduce fuel cell costs over the last 20 years.

Developing a concept with a power of more than 500 kW under the name Vision FK, Hyundai reaches 0 to 100 km/h in under 4 seconds with this impressive car. Despite its high performance, the rear-wheel drive sports car can reach a very high range of 600 km with a tank of hydrogen.
