Spanish automaker CUPRA has chosen Goodyear Eagle F5 SuperSport tires as original equipment (OE) for Formentor VZ1, its most powerful model to date.

Producing 5 hp with its 390-cylinder engine, the Formentor VZ5 is the flagship of CUPRA and the most assertive model of the Formentor sports crossover product group. CUPRA, which will produce only 7000 Formentor VZ5, is bringing this model to life as a very special car series.

The Goodyear Eagle F5 SuperSport tires fitted to the VZ1 will be 255/35R20 in size. For its most powerful model to date, CUPRA requested from Goodyear a UUHP (ultra ultra high performance) tire with excellent dry handling performance, short braking distance and very good wet grip. Based on the award-winning Eagle F1 SuperSport model, Goodyear worked with CUPRA for 18 months to develop a tire tailored to the needs of the Formentor VZ5.

A number of technical innovations have been implemented to further enhance the tyre's performance characteristics. Some of these stood out as super-hard sidewalls for handling and driving stability, with a closed exterior pattern to improve dry performance and cornering.

Hans Vrijsen, Managing Director of Consumer OE for the Goodyear EMEA Region, said: “We are delighted that the drivers of the exciting Cupra Formentor VZ5 will experience the superior performance of the Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperSport. We have worked closely with CUPRA to perfect the tire around the vehicle's needs. Goodyear's selection of its flagship Eagle F1 SuperSport is testament to the performance characteristics of this tyre.”

Goodyear's cooperation with CUPRA will also show itself on the tracks. Goodyear, the tire supplier of PURE ETCR, the world's first multi-brand all-electric touring car championship, and WTCR, the FIA World Touring Car Cup, also gave the Eagle F1 SuperSport to the teams competing in the PURE ETCR with the electric CUPRA e-Racer and the CUPRA León Competición in the WTCR.
