Nürburgring's new record in compact class cars is Audi's… Audi Sport pilot Frank Stippler, who took the track with Audi's RS3 model, broke the track record with a time of 7:40.748 minutes. Stippler, who also held the previous record, improved his time by 4,64 seconds.

Audi added a new one to its record times on the Nürburgring circuit. The legendary track became the best in the compact class RS 3. Frank Stippler, one of Audi Sport's development and racing drivers, set the new record with a time of 3:7 behind the wheel of the RS 40.748.

Torque Splitter – First Audi with Splitter: RS 3

On the basis of the record at the Nürburgring, the Torque Splitter-Splitter, which Audi used for the first time in the RS 3 model, has a huge impact. Enabling active, fully variable torque steering between the rear wheels, the system significantly reduces the tendency to understeer during dynamic driving by increasing the drive torque to the outer rear wheel with higher wheel load. It transmits torque to the right rear wheel on left bends, left rear wheel on right bends and to both wheels when driving straight, providing optimum stability and maximum agility when cornering at high speeds.

Stippler: a Torque Splitter breakthrough

Stippler, who also held the previous record and improved his time with the RS 3 by 4,64 seconds, said, “The new RS 3 was much more agile from the middle to the end of the corner and even when exiting the corner. For me, the torque splitter is a real breakthrough in terms of agile driving. It is especially felt with the new RS Performance driving mode developed specifically for the racetrack with its own engine and transmission features.”

Stippler, who adjusted the pressure of the Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R semi-slick tires on the vehicle before the record lap, according to the track conditions, said, “We did not have unlimited opportunities to try such a record. Therefore, the small details were extremely important. Especially in terms of tire pressure. Because it's the same zamit would also affect how the torque splitter works at the same time. We finally made it,” he said.
