Karsan won the 100% electric public transportation tenders opened by the Romanian Ministry of Regional Development and Public Administration, and reached an agreement for the Turkish automotive industry's largest electric bus export to date. As a result of the tender, signatures were signed for the export of 35 million Euros of public transportation system in two separate ceremonies held in Romania with the participation of Karsan CEO Okan Baş. Karsan won both tenders with its 100 percent electric 18-meter-long bus. Leading the sector with its high-tech products, Karsan will deliver a total of 44 electric buses, 12 of which are to Timișoara Municipality and 56 to Braşov Municipality, within the scope of the tender. In addition, it will install a total of 19 charging stations, 75 of which are fast charging, in the region, and will provide a comprehensive electric public transport system service by undertaking all maintenance and garage operation of the vehicles for 6 years.
Karsan, the pioneer of its sector, which has achieved many firsts on a global scale with its work in the field of electric and autonomous vehicles, has achieved a huge export of 35 million Euros with the two electric bus tenders it won in Romania. With these agreements, Karsan has reached an agreement to realize Turkey's highest amount of electric bus exports. The Romanian Ministry of Regional Development and Public Administration opened both tenders received by Karsan. Accordingly, Karsan won the tender for 44 electric buses of the Timișoara Municipality and 12 of the 18-meter-long electric buses of the Braşov Municipality to be used in urban public transportation services. Karsan will also establish 19 charging stations, 75 of which are fast charging, in Romania, and will provide a comprehensive electric public transport system service by undertaking the maintenance and garage operation of the vehicles for 6 years. Within the scope of the tenders, Karsan will export 18 zero-emission buses, consisting of 100-meter-long 56% electric models, to Romania, and aims to make the first deliveries by 2022.
“Our second largest electric bus market is in Romania”
Speaking at the signing ceremonies held within the scope of the two tenders won, Karsan CEO Okan Baş said, “The future of transportation passes through electric and driverless public transportation vehicles. Karsan CEO Okan Baş continued his words as follows; “While we are excited to expand the family with our new 12 percent electric bus model in the 18 and 100 meter class, which we will introduce in our country very soon, we also believe that we have made a very good start with this tender we won. These tenders, worth 35 million Euros, do not only mean the sale of buses. As Karsan, we approach transportation as a whole. In this context, as Karsan, we will carry out a total of 19 charging stations, 75 of which are fast charging, and all maintenance operations and garage operations of the vehicles. In other words, we can call this agreement worth 35 million Euros an agreement for an electric public transportation system.
