The automotive industry, which has been the sectoral champion of Turkish exports for the last 15 years, continued to record a double-digit increase in June with the base effect.

OIB Chairman of the Board Baran Çelik: “Although our exports continue to increase in double digits due to the base effect, on the other hand, the interruption of production by some companies in the main industry due to the semiconductor chip problem adversely affects automotive exports. While our exports of motor vehicles for the supply industry and goods transportation increased by double digits in June, our exports of passenger cars and bus-minibuses-midibuses decreased by double digits. In June, we recorded high increases of up to 125 percent, especially in the United Kingdom and Italy.”

The automotive industry, which has been the export champion of the Turkish economy for the last 15 years on a sectoral basis and directly employs 300 thousand people, continues to increase in double digits with the base effect since last April. According to the data of Uludag Automotive Industry Exporters' Association (OIB), the automotive industry's exports in June increased by 17 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching $2,35 billion. Thus, the sector approached the level of 2,5 billion dollars, which is the monthly export average in the pre-pandemic period. The sector ranked second with a share of 11,9 percent from Turkey's exports in June.

The exports of the sector in the January-June period increased by 33 percent compared to the previous year and reached 14,4 billion dollars. While the sector ranked first in the country's exports with its exports in the half of the year, its average monthly export was 2,4 billion dollars.

OIB Chairman of the Board of Directors Baran Çelik said, "Although exports continue to increase by double digits due to the base effect, the interruption of production by some companies in the main industry due to the semiconductor chip problem continues to negatively affect automotive exports." Baran Çelik said, “While exports of motor vehicles for the supply industry and goods transport increased by double digits, exports of passenger cars and bus-minibuses-midibuses decreased by double digits. We had high rates of increase especially in the United Kingdom and Italy.”

Supply industry exports increased by 49,5 percent

Supply Industry exports increased by 49,5 percent in June to 1 billion 78 million dollars, and constituted the largest product group of the industry. Passenger Car exports decreased by 22 percent to 609 million dollars, Exports of Motor Vehicles for Goods Transport increased by 74 percent to 454 million dollars, Bus-Minibus-Midibus exports decreased by 24,5 percent to 87 million dollars.

While exports to Germany, the largest market in the Supply Industry, increased by 83 percent, another important market, Italy, 115%, France 38%, USA 73%, Russia 77%, UK 75%, Poland There was an increase of 77 percent. In passenger cars, exports decreased by 32 percent to France, 48 percent to Germany, 40 percent to Slovenia, 64 percent to Israel, 72 percent to Belgium, 45 percent to Sweden, 40 percent to the Netherlands, Italy. either 42 percent, the USA 36 percent, Morocco 778 percent, the United Kingdom 33 percent. In Motor Vehicles for Carrying Goods, exports increased by 319 percent to the United Kingdom, 129 percent to France, 202 percent to Italy, 126 percent to Spain, and decreased by 17 percent to Belgium. In the Bus Minibus Midibus product group, a 712 percent increase to Hungary, an 80 percent increase to France, a 70 percent decrease to Germany and a 97 percent decrease was recorded to Morocco, which are the countries with the highest exports. Among the other product groups, the export of Tow Trucks decreased by 8,5 percent to 50 million dollars.

Exports to Germany increased by 15 percent and to the United Kingdom by 125 percent.

Exports of 15 million dollars were made to Germany, the largest market of the industry, with an increase of 335 percent.

The second largest market was the United Kingdom with an increase of 125 percent, with 275 million dollars, and to France with an increase of 4 percent, with 262 million dollars. While exports increased by 82,5 percent to Italy, 33 percent to Poland, 27 percent to the USA, 43 percent to Russia, 93 percent to Hungary, 41 percent to Morocco, 16,5 percent to Belgium, Slovenia. Exports decreased by 26%, 35% to Israel and 33% to Sweden.

The increase in exports to the EU was 10 percent

On the basis of country group, exports to European Union Countries increased by 10 percent to 1 billion 468 million dollars. On the basis of country group, the share of EU countries, which ranked first in exports, was 62,4 percent.

Exports increased by 90,5 percent to other European Countries, 20 percent each to the North American Free Trade Area and African Countries, and 44 percent to the Commonwealth of Independent States.
