Lucid Air will be the first to use Pirelli's new HL tire

Pirelli introduced its first high payload tire developed specifically for electric or hybrid cars and SUVs. Built to support the weight of new battery-powered vehicles, this tire is an ideal option for heavier vehicles such as electric cars. In addition to low rolling resistance, the tire's design focused on providing superior driving comfort.

The sidewall of the new tire has the HL marking, which stands for high payload, as a testament to its competence. It can support 20% more weight than a standard tire and 6-9% more than an XL tire with the same size of extra carrying capacity.

LUCID AIR'S P ZERO HL TIRE IS OFFERED WITH ELECT AND PNCS TECHNOLOGY

The Lucid Air will be the first car to use the new Pirelli HL tires. Pirelli P ZERO tires in size HL 245/35R21 99 Y XL at the front and HL 265/ 35R21 103 Y XL at the rear will be offered for this model. These tires are specially designed for the new luxury electric sedan made in the USA and will be available towards the end of the year. In line with Pirelli's 'Perfect Fit' strategy, these P ZERO tires were developed in collaboration with the automaker to fully meet the performance standards demanded for Lucid Air. As an indication of the special design for the American manufacturer, these tires will have the 'LM1' mark on the sidewall.

Pierangelo Misani, Pirelli Senior Vice President R&D and Cyber, said: “At Pirelli, we always place the search for cutting-edge technical solutions at the heart of our business. Our focus on all new forms of sustainable mobility leads us to technologies that can anticipate possible future demands from automakers for new electric and hybrid vehicles that require increasingly customized performance from tires.”

“Lucid Air represents breakthrough technology in efficiency and performance,” said Eric Bach, Lucid Motors Senior Vice President of Product and Chief Engineer. “The new Pirelli HL tires are an integral part of meeting these criteria.”

These specially developed P ZERO tires also offer Pirelli Elect and PNCS technologies. Pirelli Elect provides low rolling resistance to increase range and less noise for maximum comfort. It also includes a special compound developed for grip that responds to the instant torque demands of the electric transmission and a structure that can support the weight of the battery pack. Utilizing a special sound-absorbing material placed inside the tire to further increase interior comfort, PNCS technology helps to reduce air vibrations that would normally be transmitted into the vehicle. The benefits of this system can be felt both inside and outside the vehicle.
