Offering transportation solutions suitable for the mobility needs of the era in its factory located in Turkey, Karsan is now signing off on a new project, after Romania, for the Autonomous Atak Electric, the first Level 4 driverless bus in America and Europe. Within the scope of the project, Karsan cooperated with Istanbul Technical University (ITU), one of Turkey's most respected educational institutions, and agreed to use Autonomous Atak Electric in the R&D activities of the university. With this cooperation, it is aimed to develop new projects with high commercial potential worldwide in the field of driverless vehicle technologies by the Turkish engineers of the future. Autonomous Atak Electric, which was developed on the 8-meter class Atak Electric model, with the work done by the Karsan R&D team and the autonomous software of the local company ADASTEC, will be delivered to the university in the second half of the year.

At the signing ceremony held for the project in question, ITU Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Koyuncu and ADASTEC CEO Dr. Karsan CEO Okan Baş, who met with Ali Ufuk Peker, said, “With our pioneering role as Karsan, we pressed the button for the public transportation vehicles of the future. Accordingly, at the beginning of the year, we introduced the Autonomous Atak Electric, the first mass-produced Level-4 driverless bus in Europe and America. After receiving our first order from Romania, we are now happy to respond to the request of ITU, one of the most respected educational institutions in Turkey. In this context, we aim to deliver Autonomous Atak Electric to the 2021-2022 academic year. It is a source of pride for us and our country that our driverless 8-meter bus will be evaluated within the scope of ITU's R&D activities.” Regarding the project, ITU Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Koyuncu said, “I hope the project we are working on will develop with the pioneering engineering perspective of Istanbul Technical University and turn into a success story.” ADASTEC CEO Dr. Ali Ufuk Peker said, “We are very proud and pleased to undertake such a project, which will be used as more equipped and value-added information, with the sharing of data from R&D studies, academic publications, product and workforce demands from industry and technology companies related to autonomous vehicles. ,” he declared.

Being the only independent multi-brand vehicle manufacturer in Turkey, Karsan is now signing off on a new project after Romania for Autonomous Atak Electric, the first Level 4 driverless bus ready for real road conditions in America and Europe. Autonomous Atak Electric, which received its first order from Romania during its development work last year, received demand from Istanbul Technical University (ITU) for the first time in Turkey, right after the start of production. Autonomous Atak Electric, developed by Karsan's R&D team and ADASTEC's joint work using the flowride.ai software on Atak Electric, Karsan's 8 percent electric model in the 100-meter class, will be used in project development studies within the scope of R&D activities of the university. In this way, the ground will be provided for industry and technology companies and academia to develop technological products and services with high scientific depth and commercial potential.

Based on the experience we gained here, we developed Autonomous Atak Electric together with ADASTEC and we continue to break new ground. Following the order we received from a Romanian technology company, we are collaborating with one of Turkey's most respected education and science institutions, ITU, for the first autonomous project of our country. In this context, we aim to manufacture the Autonomous Atak Electric to meet the 2021-2022 academic year and deliver it to ITU. It is a source of pride for us and our country that Autonomous Atak Electric will be evaluated within the scope of ITU's R&D activities.”

ITU Rector Prof. Dr. Addressing the details of the project, İsmail Koyuncu said, “One of the most important pillars of digitalization today is artificial intelligence technology, which is gaining in importance day by day and is integrated with many industries. It is now possible to use it extensively in autonomous vehicle applications and to minimize the problems caused by human error. As ITU, we were already working on this technology. But now, thanks to the R&D project we carried out with the vehicle manufacturer Karsan and its autonomous vehicle technology business partner ADASTEC, we will be able to realize a completely domestic and national technology, and we will have the chance to provide information and experience to other sectors with the new experiences we have gained from here. Autonomous Atak Electric, which can detect its environment without the need for a driver, has many LiDAR sensors located in different parts of the vehicle. In addition, many innovative technologies such as advanced radar technology on the front, high resolution image processing with RGB cameras, extra environmental security thanks to thermal cameras are among the features of Otonom Atak Electric. Autonomous Atak Electric, which can offer all these technologies as Level 4 Autonomous, can act without a driver on a planned route. The vehicle, which can go up to 50 km / h autonomously in all weather conditions, day or night, is made by a bus driver; It carries out all operations such as berthing to stops on the route, managing the getting off-getting-on processes, managing intersections and crossings as well as managing traffic lights without a driver.
