PIRELLI OFFERS A WIDE RANGE OF PRODUCTS IN 'RUN FLAT' TECHNOLOGY
Today, more than a dozen premium and prestige car manufacturers, including Audi, Alfa Romeo, BMW, Jeep, Mercedes-Benz and Rolls-Royce, are using 'run flat' technology tires from Pirelli. This technology is available in more than 50 models that Pirelli has homologated for use by automakers. On the sidewall of all these tires, there are 'run flat' inscriptions, as well as markings indicating the relevant car manufacturer. This technology is used in some tires with Pirelli Elect and PNCS Pirelli Noise Canceling System. Of these, Pirelli Elect is geared towards electric cars and focuses on a structure that will support low rolling resistance, reduction of tire noise, instant handling and the weight of a battery powered vehicle. PNCS, on the other hand, focuses on reducing tire noise perceived inside the vehicle, thanks to a special sound deadening material inside the tire. For punctures up to four millimeters, this technology works with a special foam that instantly covers the foreign material that punctures the tire and prevents pressure loss. When the foreign matter is removed, the foam continues to expand, blocking the hole. Thus, it is ensured that the driver can continue on the road safely and with maximum comfort.
DEVELOPED WITH ROBOTIC TECHNOLOGIES AND OFFERED TO ROADS
State-of-the-art 'Run flat' tires are the result of Pirelli's innovative MIRS manufacturing process, a process in which 'raw' tires produced using robots are fully computer controlled. Thus, the final product is guaranteed to meet high quality and reliability standards. Pirelli's self-supporting 'run flat' system uses special reinforcements placed in the sidewall structure and capable of supporting lateral and transverse forces acting on the car even when there is no tire pressure.
