Automotive Industry Association (OSD) announced the data for the January-April period. During this period, automotive production increased by 28 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 415 thousand 187 units, while automobile production increased by 18 percent to 288 thousand 211 units.
With the production of tractors, total production reached 470 units. In the same period, automotive exports increased by 859 percent to 18 thousand 339 units, while automobile exports increased by 197 percent to 6 thousand 212 units. In the January-April period, the total market increased by 56 percent compared to the previous year and reached 74 thousand 271 units. The automobile market, on the other hand, increased by 173 percent and became 69 thousand 204 units. Considering the averages of the last 839 years, the total market increased 10 percent in the first four months of the year, while the automobile market increased 23 percent, the light commercial vehicle market 30 percent and the heavy commercial vehicle market increased by 6 percent.
Automotive Industry Association (OSD), the umbrella organization of the sector with its 14 large members that direct the Turkish automotive industry, announced the production and export numbers and market data for the January-April period. The base effect, which occurred as a result of the automotive industry's interruption to production within the scope of the pandemic measures last year, was reflected in the increase rates of the January-April period of 2021. Accordingly, in the first four months of the year, total automotive production increased by 28 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 415 thousand 187 units, while automobile production increased by 18 percent to 288 thousand 211 units. With the production of tractors, the total production was 470 thousand 859 units. During this period, the capacity utilization rate of the automotive industry was 69 percent. On the basis of vehicle group, capacity utilization rates were 69 percent in light vehicles (automobile + light commercial vehicle), 62 percent in heavy commercial vehicles and 79 percent in tractors.
52 percent increase in commercial vehicle production
In the January-April period, commercial vehicle production increased by 52 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. During this period, production in the heavy commercial vehicle group increased by 89 percent, while the production in the light commercial vehicle group increased by 49 percent. During this period, total commercial vehicle production was 162 thousand 976 units. Looking at the market, in the January-April period, compared to the same period of the previous year, the commercial vehicle market increased by 93 percent, the light commercial vehicle market increased by 88 percent and the heavy commercial vehicle market increased by 124 percent. Although there was an increase in the heavy commercial vehicle group compared to the previous year, considering the base effect, the truck market shrank by 2015 percent, the bus market by 33 percent and the midibus market by 46 percent compared to 75.
The market is 10 percent above the 23-year averages
In the January-April period, the total market increased by 74 percent compared to the previous year and reached 271 thousand 173 units. In this period, the automobile market increased by 69 percent and became 204 thousand 839 units. Considering the averages of the last 10 years, the total market increased by 2021 percent, the automobile market by 23 percent, the light commercial vehicle market by 30 percent, the truck market by 6 percent, while the bus market decreased by 11 percent and the midibus market by 33 percent in the January-April period of 55. During this period, the share of domestic vehicles in automobile sales was 39 percent, while the share of domestic vehicles in the light commercial vehicle market was 54 percent.
Exports increased by 18 percent in terms of quantity in January-April
In the period covering the first four months of the year, automotive exports increased by 18 percent on unit basis compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 339 units. Automobile exports increased by 197 percent and reached 6 thousand 212 units. In the same period, exports of tractors increased by 56 percent and were recorded as 110 units. According to the data of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM), automotive industry exports remained in the first place with a share of 8 percent in total exports in the January-April period.
Exports rose 34 percent on dollar basis and 23 percent on euro basis
In the January-April period, compared to the same period of the previous year, total automotive exports increased 34 percent in dollar terms and 23 percent in euro terms. During this period, total automotive exports were 10,3 billion dollars, while automobile exports increased by 18 percent to 3,5 billion dollars. Automobile exports in euro terms increased by 8 percent to 2,9 billion euros. In the January-April period, the main industry exports increased by 30 percent on a dollar basis, while the supply industry exports increased by 40 percent.
