New Project Decisions Taken at the SSB 7th R&D Panel

The seventh of the R&D Panels, in which the decisions to initiate R&D projects in the field of defense industry, were held at the Presidential Defense Industry Presidency (SSB). At the SSB 7th R&D Panel meeting, it was decided to initiate 4 Projects and to call Wide Area Calls (SAGA) in 2 areas.

In addition to the SSB, representatives from the Ministry of National Defense, Turkish Armed Forces, TUBITAK and academicians related to the projects take part in the R&D Panels as members. At the SSB R&D Panels, decisions are taken to initiate projects for the development of critical components or future-oriented new technologies required by the existing or planned systems and platforms of the TAF. same zamAt the moment, it is decided to make wide area calls targeting technical demonstration-oriented projects that do not include final product delivery. SME-Industry-University cooperation is given importance in the projects. Universities, institutes or SMEs take part in projects as contractors or subcontractors.

As a result of the R&D Panels, the first of which was held in 2016 and gathered 7 times so far, it was decided to initiate a total of 40 Projects and to publish the Defense Industry Wide Area Call (SAGA) in 19 areas.

Presidency Defense Industry President Prof. Dr. İsmail Demir, in his statement on the subject; Stating that 104 billion lira has been spent on 3,5 R&D projects completed and ongoing so far, he said that they are carrying out these projects together with universities, companies, research institutions and institutes.

Stating that the defense industry R&D expenditures, which were only 2002 million dollars in 49, increased 2019 times to approximately 34 billion dollars at the end of 1,7, Demir said, “This figure corresponds to approximately 15 percent of the total sector turnover. This figure is an indication of our industry's contribution to original product and technology development. "We will continue on our way without compromising on R&D and technology studies in the goal of fully independent defense industry."

R & D Projects and SAGA Calls for which the Decision to Start as a Result of the SSB 7th R&D Panel Meeting

Multi-Core Microprocessor Development Project: The project aims to design and verify a multi-core microprocessor, develop operating system support packages, and display all developed components in an integrated manner. The processor to be developed will be used in mission computers of various systems and platforms, primarily military weapon systems.

Aviation Engine Materials Development Program Phase-2 Project: With the project, 3 different superalloys that are used in the manufacture of gas turbine engine components and that meet the requirements of high temperature and high pressure operation will be developed and verified. In this way, foreign dependency on the critical materials needed by gas turbine aviation engines, especially Turboshaft Engine, whose domestic development is ongoing, will be eliminated.

Project for Improving Functional Transition Material (FGM) Processes with Directed Energy Deposition Additive Manufacturing Technology (DED):  Within the scope of the project, a robotic system consisting of powder spraying and laser feeding units will be developed for the directed energy accumulation method and additive manufacturing process. With this system, a liquid fuel rocket engine nozzle extension will be produced as a prototype, consisting of a transitional material structure and used in Rocket and Missile projects.

PEM Fuel Cell Technology Development Project for Directed Energy Weapon Systems (YESS): The project aims to develop the PEM Fuel Cell-based power supply that will provide the electrical energy required by the "Directed Energy Weapon System" placed on a tactical wheeled vehicle. In this way, the noise and vibration loads affecting the target strike performance of the "Directed Energy Weapon System" will be reduced, and a power source that is advantageous in terms of volume and weight will be obtained from conventional power supplies with reduced thermal and acoustic traces in a way that makes it difficult to locate.

Defense Industry Wide Area (SAGA) Call for Development of Swarm Communication Technologies: Within the scope of this call, it is aimed to develop flexible, planning-free, low-latency, high-bandwidth waveforms, mission planning software and communication systems that provide communication security for homogeneous or heterogeneous swarming systems consisting of unmanned air, land and sea vehicles. Thanks to the projects to be initiated with the SAGA call, unmanned Land, Sea and Air vehicles To Herd Systems new communication capabilities will be earned.

Defense Industry Wide Area (SAGA) Call for Development of Centralized / Distributed Herd Management Technologies: Within the scope of this call, it is aimed to control the herd as a whole without the operator controlling the behavior of each individual of the herd separately by increasing the level of autonomy. Thanks to the projects to be initiated with the SAGA call, unmanned Land, Sea and Air vehicles To Herd Systems common tasks at a high level of autonomy The function of execution will be gained.
