Last Minute… Large-Scale Operation in Northern Iraq!

The TSK launched a comprehensive operation against terrorist targets in Northern Iraq. PKK targets in Metina, Zap, Avashin-Basyan and Kandil were reportedly under fire.

In addition to the F-16s, border artillery units, fire support elements in the forward base areas and attack helicopters are participating in the operation.

Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar, along with the Chief of General Staff General Yaşar Güler and the Force Commanders, follow the operation from the Operation Center and receive information and instructions from the unit commanders in the region regarding the operation. Akar and Commanders watch the instant images transmitted by the UAVs from the operation from the operation center.

In the operation, in which unarmed and armed human aircraft (UAV / SİHA) participated in addition to numerous warplanes, the shelters and shelters where the terrorist organization housed, and the caves used as ammunition were shot and destroyed.

Along with the air operation targeting mainly Metina, Avaşin-Basyan, Kandil, Zap, Gara regions, Storm howitzers and other long-range howitzers fired at the border outposts as well. While the Kandil region was hit by F-16s departing from various bases, mostly Diyarbakır, after air attacks, land elements were landed in Metina, Zap and Avashin-Basyan regions with Sikorsky and Chinook type helicopters.

In addition, it is said that up to 50 aircraft participated in the air operation, the aircraft refueled from tanker aircraft that remained in the air throughout the operation without landing on their bases, and the airborne early warning and control aircraft (AWACS) were on the operation area during the operation, while ATAK helicopters target terrorists who try to escape from the region.
