DHL Express purchases the first 100 Fiat E-Ducato electric light commercial vehicles for the European fleet. This collaboration represents the next step in the goal of making up 2030 percent of the fleet to be electric vehicles by 60. DHL Express aims to add more than 14 electric vehicles to its delivery fleet across Europe.

DHL Express, the world's leading provider of express cargo services, has taken another step towards its zero emission strategy. The company announced today that it has purchased the first 100 units of Fiat's new E-Ducato electric light commercial vehicle in cooperation with Fiat Professional. These commercial vehicles stand out with their high capacity and long battery life as well as being 100 percent electric. With a total range of more than 200 kilometers, E-Ducato offers a very suitable option for address delivery logistics. DHL Express aims to reduce carbon emissions by including more than 2030 electric vehicles in its fleet in Europe by 14, in line with the Sustainability Roadmap recently implemented by the DPDHL Group.

Alberto Nobis: "The future of address delivery logistics will be electrified"

“We believe that the future of address delivery logistics is electrified,” said Alberto Nobis, CEO of DHL Express Europe, “We are committed to making every work we do more environmentally friendly and clean to fulfill our goal of connecting people and improving lives. By adding E-Ducato to our fleet, we are taking another important step towards our goal of making the majority of our address delivery fleet consist of electric vehicles. Fiat Professional has the most advanced technology and offers us the features we are looking for with its powerful battery. Thus, by covering more than 200 kilometers with a full charge, we will be able to deliver express cargo to our customers in a fast and environmentally friendly manner.

DHL Express serves consumers and businesses in more than 60 European countries and regions. The fleet that offers this service currently consists of 14 thousand light commercial vehicles and approximately 500 electric commercial vehicles, mostly in urban areas. Due to the high customer demand for international express shipping, the company predicts that its European address delivery fleet will reach approximately 2030 light commercial vehicles by 20. DHL Express continues to take steps with its determination to make 2030 percent of its fleet (about 60 vehicles) from electric vehicles by the end of 14 to make its sustainability strategy a reality.

The majority of commercial vehicles are used for urban delivery. The E-Ducato was tested in cooperation with Fiat Professional to check the suitability of DHL for all uses, in different conditions such as very cold weather, very steep slopes and long distances.

Eric Laforge: “We are proud that DHL Express has chosen the E-Ducato”

Stating that the E-Ducato project is a journey to innovation and the future, Stellantis Europe Light Electric Vehicle Director Eric Laforge said: “We are proud that a key player like DHL Express has chosen the E-Ducato for such an ambitious goal. With the E-Ducato, it is the same to develop not only an economically and environmentally sustainable product zamWe aimed to provide a complete mobility solution for our business partners at the moment. ”

The strategic partnership with Fiat represents the next step for DHL Express in the measures taken so far to deliver zero carbon emissions to customers. The company is still using cargo bikes in many big cities such as Barcelona, Copenhagen and Frankfurt to reduce urban traffic congestion and carbon emissions, while in London and Amsterdam it provides the connection between distribution facilities and the city center by boats.

A fully electric mobility chain requires charging infrastructure throughout the coverage area as well as vehicles. DHL Express is currently working with many specialist companies on a roadmap that will significantly increase the number of charging points in Europe in the next few years to further expand its charging network.

Electrification in address delivery logistics is one of the cornerstones of the Sustainability Roadmap recently announced by the DPDHL Group. The group will invest a total of 2030 billion Euros (operating and capital expenditure) by 7 to reduce carbon emissions. In addition to the electrification of vehicles, this resource will be transferred to alternative aviation fuels and climate-neutral buildings, and the company is also committed to achieving new and ambitious intermediate targets on the road to zero emissions by 2050, which has been going on for four years. For example, Deutsche Post DHL Group is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, in line with the Paris Climate Agreement under the Science-Based Goals Initiative (SBTi).
