Chemotherapy-Free Treatment for Breast Cancer Spread to the Lymph Node

In the study, the results of which were announced recently and the effectiveness of only anti-hormonal treatment without chemotherapy was investigated in breast cancer patients with a small number of armpit lymph nodes, that is, metastasis, it was shown that only anti-hormonal treatments can be obtained with the same efficiency without chemotherapy in this group of patients.

Anadolu Medical Center Medical Oncology Specialist Prof. Dr. Serdar Turhal said, “This study was based on a study conducted in the past years that showed that chemotherapy can be as good as chemotherapy without chemotherapy by calculating the genetic risk in breast cancer patients with no spread to the armpit lymphs.

In this new study, Anadolu Medical Center Medical Oncology Specialist Prof. Dr. Serdar Turhal said, “3/9 of the patients were in menopause and 9383/2 were patients who had not yet entered menopause. In this study, only hormone therapy was given to some of the patients whose genetic recurrence risk was calculated to be low, and some of them both chemotherapy and hormone therapy ”.

Prof. Dr. Serdar Turhal continued his explanations as follows: “While there is an additional contribution of 1.3 percent of chemotherapy in women who have not entered menopause and have a low genetic recurrence score in the five-year follow-up, such an additional benefit of chemotherapy could not be demonstrated in women who have entered menopause. As a result, it has been shown that only anti-hormone therapy can be as effective as chemotherapy in patients with positive hormone receptors and entering menopause. "
