Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar and the accompanying delegation visited HAVELSAN and made observations on the work done.
Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar, along with Chief of General Staff Gen. Yaşar Güler, Land Forces Commander Gen. Ümit Dündar, Air Forces Commander Gen. Hasan Küçükakyüz, Naval Forces Commander Admiral Adnan Özbal and Deputy Minister Muhsin Dere made observations in Havelsan. During the investigations, Barkan, the middle class multi-purpose unmanned ground vehicle developed by HAVELSAN, was also seen for the first time.
HAVELSAN announced that it has gained joint operations capability for unmanned aerial and land vehicles during its logo launch on December 8, 2020. With the new capability brought to the platforms, it was stated that joint operations can be carried out from a single center by integrating payload and subsystems in unmanned air and land vehicles. The BARKAN IKA system was actually displayed here for the first time.
Along with the new capability announced during the launch of the logo, other IKA platforms that have gained autonomous capability by HAVELSAN were also exhibited. Equipped with the SARP Remote Controlled Stabilized Weapon System (UKSS) developed by ASELSAN, the Autonomous Unmanned Ground Vehicle was among the platforms exhibited. It was stated that the Autonomous İKA, which was exhibited for the first time, has the ability to operate jointly with unmanned aerial vehicles.
Visit of Minister Akar and Command Level to HAVELSAN
Welcomed by Chairman of the Board Mustafa Şeker, General Manager Mehmet Akif Nacar and members of the board of directors on his arrival in Havelsan, Minister Akar received a briefing on completed and ongoing projects.
Emphasizing the importance of the defense industry, Minister Akar said, “Our friends, allies and those we know as friends insist on not giving us the desired material, which we pay for. Despite all the attempts made, there is serious trouble and discomfort in this regard. There is no mention of any 'embargo' or 'restriction', but for one reason or another, this work goes on and on for reasons such as bureaucratic, financial, sometimes climatic conditions and sometimes epidemics. " he spoke.
Expressing that they are aware of this, Minister Akar said: “Therefore, know that critical weapons and systems are directly proportional to our sovereignty and independence. There is a great similarity between a software developer working with a computer and fighting a gun. In order to save us from these troubles, factories, designers, everyone in production must take responsibility and work. We need a strong army to protect our rights and laws. A strong army means people and materials. We know that the defense industry is very important for the Turkish Armed Forces. With the support and leadership of our President, the rate of local and nationality in the defense industry has increased to 70 percent. However, we still have a long way to go. The more high-tech weapons you put into the hands of the Mehmetçi who is full of love for the homeland and nation, the more successful the result will be. The Turkish Armed Forces, in accordance with its historical national, moral and professional values, not only for its own country and nation, but also for the same zamAt the same time, it continues to contribute to regional and world peace on land, at sea and in the air within the framework of the UN, NATO and OSCE.”
We Are Infantry
After the briefing, Minister Akar moved to the Simulation, Autonomous and Platform Management Technologies building with the accompanying TAF Command Level. Minister Akar, who examined simulators, especially the Hezarfen Parachute Training Simulator, personally tried the Sniper Training Simulator.
Reminding that he was an infantryman, Minister Akar, who took charge of the simulator, hit a target 450 meters away with one shot. Minister Akar then examined the Airbus A320 Full Flight Simulator produced by Havelsan for Turkish Airlines. Minister Akar also made a short flight over Istanbul with Air Force Commander Gen. Hasan Küçükakyüz.
After examining the middle class multi-purpose unmanned ground vehicle Barkan and other systems, Minister Akar and TAF Command left Havelsan.
