TCG Istanbul, the first frigate designed by Turkish engineers, is also the first ship of the MİLGEM I-class frigate project, which is the second phase continuation of the MİLGEM ADA CLASS corvettes. The Istanbul Frigate, which has a different place than the ADA class corvettes in terms of its structure, is of great importance due to the use of domestically produced systems in the weapon electronic systems it will carry. The Istanbul Frigate, where the domestic rate will be at least 2 percent, draws attention with its submarine and surface warfare, air defense, execution of outpost activities, reconnaissance, surveillance, target detection, identification, recognition and early warning features. The first national frigate, whose length has been extended by 75 meters due to the hardware changes and additions made to the weapon systems according to the ADA class, is 10 meters in total. TCG Istanbul, which has a width of 113 meters, differs from ADA class corvettes with its ability to hold and launch air guided bullets. While STM is responsible for procuring the ship's building materials, preparing design documents and workmanship drawings; The supply of platform systems, including all weapon electronics and main propulsion system, the responsibilities of the ship's testing and integration processes and integrated logistics support operations are also carried out by STM.
