TAI to export ANKA-S UAV worth approximately USD 80 million to Tunisia

Turkish Aerospace Industry (TAI), which has improved its production capacity and achieved new success in recent years, has signed a new export agreement. The bilateral meeting between the Tunisian Ministry of Defense and TAI in 2019 started for the purchase of ANKA UAV. In the first months of 2020, UAV training and financing issues were clarified and progress was achieved in the negotiations. As reported by Haber Türk on 13 November 2020; TAI will deliver 3 ANKA-S UAVs and 3 Ground Control Systems to the Tunisian Air Force Command.

The first platform aircraft export, which took place during the period of TAI General Manager Temel Kotil, will be financed by Turkish EXIMBANK. As a result of the negotiations, it was stated that the export program has also started with the fulfillment of the loan conditions in Tunisia and the completion of the mutual obligations under the contract.

Approximate value of the export agreement between TAI and Tunisian Air Force is USD 80 million. In addition, after the export agreement, 52 Tunisian pilots and maintenance personnel will be given necessary training at TUSAŞ facilities in Ankara.

ANK-S

The ANKA-S System, designed according to international safety standards with the integration of new generation payloads and national facilities, took its place in the inventory as one of the most competent systems of its class in terms of safety and operation capability with its national flight control computer, national aircraft control computer and national IFF.

ANKA-S, MALE (Medium Altitude Long Airborne) UAV project was implemented as a sub-type of ANKA UAV systems on October 25, 2013 with the production agreement between the Presidency of Defense Industry and Turkish Aerospace Industries. ANKA-S, developed on the basis of ANKA and ANKA Block-B systems, went into service in 2017.

Another feature of the S version is that the system can be controlled from the satellite. With the ability to be controlled from the satellite, an expanded operating area is created by increasing the control distance.

Day and night, including bad weather conditions, reconnaissance, surveillance, fixed/moving target detection, identification, identification and tracking purposes, real zamreal-time image intelligence tasks, diagnosis, tracking and marking tasks with a new generation electro-optical/infrared camera, air-ground/ground-ground communication support is provided with MAK mission and radio relay.

  • As of September 2018, 2 Anka-S UAVs were delivered to the Air Force. Thus, the number of TAI Anka-S UAVs in the inventory reached 8.
