The tests of the first phase of the self-driving test venue in Shunyi, the northeastern suburban area of Beijing, the capital of China, were successfully passed.
The construction of the first phase of the 20-hectare test area has been completed. Here a highway, urban and rural ring roads, and the same zamand now there are virtual simulation and smart city roadways adaptation facilities. With this test center, Beijing now has three dedicated areas for testing driverless / autonomous vehicles. The other two centers are located in Yizhuang and Haidian districts.
At the 2020 World Smart Connected Vehicle Conference held in the capital, a ceremony was held in the region covering an area of 80 hectares for these tests. Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Industry and Information Technology Xiao Yaqing stated that smart device-connected vehicles are of great strategic importance for the transformation and further advancement of the Chinese automotive industry. Xiao pointed out that his ministry will encourage innovation and support the political environment necessary for the high-quality development of the industry. In his speech, Shunyi Party Chairman Gao Peng announced that they will hold a 200 square kilometer demonstration area for innovation in smart connected vehicles in the region.
