What is Osteoporosis?

Osteoporosis, which was defined as porous bone in 1829 by Lobstein for the first time in history, was later described as 'toolittle bone in bone' (very little bone in the bone) by Albright in 1948. Its word meaning means osteoporosis, porous-porous, bone (os). With its current definition, it is a systemic bone disease characterized by low bone mass and an increase in bone fragility as a result of deterioration in bone microarchitecture.

Osteoporosis is a global problem with increasing importance due to the aging of the world's population. Therefore, osteoporosis was accepted as a silent epidemic and was defined as a priority health problem by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1994. In recent years, developments in all fields of science have prolonged the average human life span, and thus, human beings have met the inevitable effects of aging. One of these effects, and perhaps the most important, is osteoporosis. Therefore, osteoporosis is a disease of the 20th century in a sense.
