Health Minister Dr. Fahrettin Koca chaired the first meeting of the Domestic Vaccine Joint Working Group. The meeting, Covidien-19 against carrying out studies of vaccine scientists in Turkey, Turkey Institutes of Health Administration (TÜSEB) Chairman Prof. Dr. Erhan Akdogan, Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) President Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal and ministry officials attended.
Minister of Health husband, the meeting's opening speech, "Turkey's prospect in this room," he began. Minister Koca stated that TÜSEB and TÜBİTAK called out in the first days of the epidemic and that 14 projects among the applicants were approved and started their work, and stated that significant progress was made in the pre-clinical and clinical stages during this period. Stating that animal trials of 5 vaccines have been completed at the current point, the Minister of Health stated that the human trials of two vaccine candidates developed at Kayseri Erciyes University and Ankara University will begin. Underlining that it is necessary to move quickly without compromising the standards but not drowning in bureaucracy, Minister Koca continued his words as follows:
"Our institution Turkey Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices (TİTCK) published last week by preparing a vaccine guidelines. This guide details what needs to be done in pre-clinical trial vaccination studies. Studies will continue to progress in this framework. On the other hand, the accreditation process of our first laboratory, where large animal studies will be conducted and which has GLP features, has been completed. Istanbul Mehmet Akif Ersoy Hospital us that our laboratory, Turkey's all vaccines, pharmaceuticals and medical devices will add great strength to work. "
During the continuation of the meeting, Minister Koca received detailed information from scientists from Erciyes, Marmara, Atatürk, Hacettepe, Yıldız Teknik, Ege, Ankara, Middle East Technical, Selçuk, Boğaziçi, Akdeniz Universities and İzmir Biomedicine and Genome Center, who carried out Covid-19 vaccine studies. Scientists also shared their point in their projects, their needs and solution suggestions.
