Metro Tunnel Meets Narlıdere Station

The works initiated by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality for the development of the light rail system, one of the most critical investments in public transportation, continue uninterruptedly. Within the scope of the works, Narlıdere Station was reached on the 7,2-kilometer metro line that will connect Fahrettin Altay and Narlıdere District Governorship.

The construction of the metro line between Fahrettin Altay and Narlıdere District Governorship, which was founded by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality in 2018, continues. The line 2 tunnel, which previously connected the stations of Balçova, Çağdaş, Dokuz Eylül University Hospital and Faculty of Fine Arts, met with Narlıdere station this morning, during the excavations carried out with 1 tunnel boring machines (TBM). In the deep tunnel works that continue on two lines in the way of going and going, while the first TBM made an advance of 3 thousand 33 meters, a thousand 326 meters long tunnel was dug in the second TBM that was commissioned later.

Studies are conducted with precision

In addition to deep tunnel digging with giant machines on the F.Altay-Narlıdere metro line, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality continues its excavations started with the New Austrian Tunneling Method (NATM), which is the classic tunneling method. The Metropolitan Municipality minimizes the possible traffic, social life and infrastructure problems that may occur during the tunnel construction thanks to the TBM, which separates the excavated stone and sand with a conveyor belt, and also places the concrete slabs of the tunnel.

It will provide uninterrupted transportation

The F.Altay-Narlıdere metro line consists of 7 stations: Balçova, Çağdaş, Dokuz Eylül University Hospital, Faculty of Fine Arts, Narlıdere, Şehitlik and District Governorship. With the completion of this line, the Metropolitan Municipality will increase the number of stations in the light rail system network to 24 and the length of the rail system to 186,5 kilometers. With the completion of the works, those who take the metro from Bornova EVKA-3 will be able to go directly to Narlıdere District Governorship.
