About Pera Museum

Pera Museum is a private museum located in the Tepebaşı district of Istanbul. It was established in 2005 by Suna and İnan Kıraç Foundation to provide quality and wide-scale culture and arts services.

It operates in the building constructed as a contemporary and well-equipped museum by preserving the facade of the historical Bristol Hotel in Tepebaşı, within the framework of the project prepared by the restorer architect Sinan Genim between 2003-2005.

Pera Museum, "Orientalist Painting", "Anatolian Weights and Measures" and "Kütahya Tiles and Ceramics" collections of the Suna and İnan Kıraç Foundation and the values ​​represented by these collections, exhibitions, publishing products, oral activities, educational activities and scientific studies. It aims to share it with the public and pass it on to future generations.

Collection exhibitions

In the Anatolian Weights and Measures Collection exhibition, which is located in a large part of the first of the museum floors, there are outstanding examples of weights and measurement units used in these lands from ancient times to the beginning of the 20th century, and scales and measurement devices produced in various materials and techniques. The Anatolian Weights and Measures Collection, which consists of approximately 10.000 works and exhibited in sections with long-term exhibitions, is a collection that especially appeals to history and archeology lovers.

Located on the other part of the same floor and dating from the middle of the 18th century to the beginning of the 20th century zamThe Kütahya Tiles and Ceramics Collection, which constitutes an important part of the Ottoman craft and art mosaic within a moment, aims to shed new lights on the not so well-known creation area of ​​our cultural history and the multi-colored and multicultural life of that period with its stunningly beautiful pieces, and is presented to visitors with long-term thematic exhibitions. .

Orientalist Painting Collection

The Suna and İnan Kıraç Foundation's Orientalist Painting Collection, consisting of more than 300 paintings, is a comprehensive collection of works by European "orientalist" painters and Ottoman artists inspired by the Ottoman world and geography. In this collection, which offers a wide visual panorama of the empire's period from the 17th century to the early 20th century, the famous painter Osman Hamdi Bey's painting titled The Tortoise Trainer is also included. The collection is exhibited in sections with long-term thematic exhibitions at the Pera Museum's Sevgi and Erdoğan Gönül Gallery.

The first of the exhibitions compiled from this collection was Portraits from the Empire, which met with visitors in June 2005 with the opening of the Pera Museum and continued until 2008. The exhibition brought the Ottoman world to the present, with portraits of sultans, princes, sultan and ambassadors, and paintings depicting people from different eras and different classes, focusing on the theme of portrait and human figures.

The second exhibition of the collection, the City of Dreams: Istanbul, brought together art lovers with the daily life of the Ottoman in private and public spaces and panoramic views of Istanbul; He was re-enacting the Istanbul of that period with its topography, architecture, people and life styles as a whole. Intersecting Worlds: Ambassadors and Painters, the exhibition of the collection opened in September 2008; Based on the ambassadors and painters of that period, he focuses on the relationship between bureaucracy and art, guided by the art and guided by the artworks on the winding paths of diplomatic history. The exhibition also brings together the works of the artist from the Foundation's collection in a special section dedicated to Osman Hamdi Bey.

Temporary exhibitions

Pera Education

Education at the Pera Museum includes the work carried out to bring children and young people together with art, to create a museum consciousness, to make art accessible and to communicate between the exhibits with the audience.

Pera Film

Pera Museum Film and Video Department, Pera Film, which started its activities in October 2008, is one of the cinema classics; It offers a comprehensive selection from Alain Resnais, Eric Rohmer, Federico Fellini, Roman Polanski, to Igmar Bergman, experimental film-video examples, animation, documentary and short film genres.

Concerts

Pera Museum organizes "Young Wednesday" and "Classic Saturday" for young audiences and chamber music concerts, which are the essence of classical music. In addition, the series of Turkish Music concerts consists of programs where today's master performers and instrumentalists will perform selected works of great composers.
