ZERO LOCAL SYNTHESIS
Favicovir, a local synthesis from scratch of the drug called Favipiravir, which is used in the treatment of Covid-19 and gives effective results in cooperation with the Ministry of Industry and Technology, Ministry of Health, TÜBİTAK, Istanbul Medipol University and Atabay İlaç, was ready for production in June.

Industry and Technology Minister Mustafa Varank, whose first sample of the drug was presented to him in June, visited Atabay Kimya's Gebze factory, where Favicovir was produced, in order to see the activities carried out on site. 4 THOUSAND TONS OF PARACETAMOL PER YEAR
In the presentation made here, it was stated that 250 thousand boxes were produced from Favicovir and delivered to the Ministry of Health; It was noted that the factory also produced paracetamol, known as an antipyretic. Minister Varank, who received the information that 4 thousand tons of paracetamol is produced annually in the factory, 80 percent of it is exported, conveyed his satisfaction to the authorities.
MEETING WITH "STAR" STUDENTS
Varank met 19 students at Atabay İlaç, who were accepted from the Intern Research Scholarship Program (STAR), which was initiated by TÜBİTAK upon the request of academics struggling against Covid-10. Varank chatted with young people involved in research projects for the diagnosis and treatment of Covid-19, and also made examinations at the factory's R&D Laboratory, Antiviral Drug Raw Material, Paracetamol Raw Material and Biotechnology Pilot facilities.

WE WERE IMPORTED FROM JAPAN AND CHINA
Atabay İlaç came to the public agenda with the production of the Favipiravir active ingredient drug used in the treatment of Covid-19. We visited their facility. Atabay İlaç has licensed it under the name Favicovir. There are several methods currently used in the world regarding Covid-19 treatment. Favipiravir active ingredient is also used extensively in the treatment of this disease. We were importing this drug from Japan and China. Covidien-19 Platform in Turkey vaccine development work from scratch while the synthesis of the drug in Turkey that was on the agenda of synthesizing the active ingredient without the need for imports. Our teacher Mustafa Güzel said that they could synthesize this drug from scratch with Zeynep Hanım. With the great effort of our scientists, this drug was synthesized from scratch. It was turned into a medicine, and our Ministry of Health got it licensed. Currently this drug is given to our patients in all of Turkey.
NEW PROJECTS ON THE ROAD
We are proud of what we witnessed here. We were just with young scientists, undergraduate students. These young people benefit from STAR scholarships and take part in projects like this. There are different projects that Atabay İlaç has worked with Mustafa Hoca. There are other projects that they want to synthesize from scratch. They're all watching the Covidien-19 as the Ministry of Industry and Technology Platform and Turkey.
WE WILL CONTINUE TO WORK TOGETHER
The pharmaceutical industry is important all over the world. Biotechnological drugs are also produced in this facility. Atabay İlaç is a company that has been operating in pharmaceutical raw materials for many years. We believe that the pharmaceutical industry is as important as the defense industry. We strategically support this industry. We held discussions on what we can do in the upcoming period. Especially TÜBİTAK MAM, together with Atabay İlaç, carries out several projects at the same time. Biotechnological and herbal-based pharmaceutical projects are just a few of them. I would like to thank Zeynep Hanım for working with the Academy and for initiating this work. In fact, they personally supported our students, whom we could not support with scholarships. So, there were drugs that would heal our citizens. We will continue to work together.

Atabay İlaç is an 82-year-old company. They have a team of 50 years. We have teachers working for a long time. One of the most important features of Atabay İlaç is that it is one of the highest quality paracetamol producers in the world. They export 70-80 percent of the capacity they produce. It is also important to have a say in the pharmaceutical industry with raw materials and not be dependent on abroad. Atabay İlaç is very capable in these matters. It can produce the raw material of many drugs itself, and it is one of the companies that have a say in paracetamol in the world.
