İzmir's First Nostalgic Tramway Starts on September 9

The first of the three rubber-wheeled nostalgic trams built by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality inspired by electric trains came to the city. The electric vehicle, which has been tested in the First Kordon, will start serving on September 98, when Izmir's enthusiasm for liberation will be experienced for the 9th time.

The first of the three nostalgic trams built by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality to serve between the Alsancak Port viaducts and Cumhuriyet Square came to the First Kordon. In order not to spoil the texture of Kordon, the tram will have rubber wheels and will work with electricity; After the tests, it will be put into service on Wednesday, September 98, when Izmir will celebrate the 9th anniversary of its liberation from enemy occupation.

Examining the incoming vehicle and reviewing the latest preparations, Dr. Buğra Gökçe said that the second of the trams will come to the city after 45 days and the third will be put into service after 90 days. The vehicles will run on the 1660-meter route between Cumhuriyet Square and Alsancak Port viaducts, on the existing road on the coast. In addition to Alsancak Port viaducts, a special area was created for the parking of the trams, maintenance, cleaning and charging.

Domestic company produced

İzmir Metro A.Ş., affiliated to İzmir Metropolitan Municipality. The nostalgic trams with rubber wheels to be operated by the company were inspired by the electric trains that served İzmir between 1928 and 1954 between Güzelyalı and Konak. The vehicles are made by a local company that produces nostalgic electric trams to different parts of the world in Denizli.

Will make a mutual expedition

The nostalgic trams, which consist of a single wagon and have a seating capacity of 28 people, will make mutual voyages after the other two are put into service. The driver's cab is located on both sides of the wagon. Passengers; It will be able to get off / on at four stops: Cumhuriyet Square, Gündoğdu Square, Alsancak Pier and Alsancak Port. The color of the two vehicles will be green and yellow, based on the color of the trams serving the city in the 1900s, and the third vehicle will be blue, representing the current metro.
